Music & Sound

Hello, it's me again. Over the years, I've produced a decent amount of Deluxe Editions. But I don't share them all, for numerous reasons: some are just not well done, some are redundant, some are by Varese. This one was initially done in 2014 with the idea to use it as the second release for the "Ask SonicAdventure for a Deluxe Edition" (Thread 179037) (in case you dont remember: I promised to pick one of the scores people voted for; and you know how that turned out: I did both). I prepared this Edition even before the poll finished... which was stupid because no one even voted for this score! So I was left with a score I initially didnt want to share on FFS alongside two other scores I promised to do. A few days ago, several people have asked for it. Before, it was shared in the Soundtrack Jungle (http://www.soundtrackjungle.com) for a Christmas special available only to members who participated in this special. But in 2015, all those shares were opened up to everyone, therefore this Edition lost its specialty status. So I've decided to share it here as well.

As is typical for John Williams, he created suites for the OST release of this score. And just like with Star Wars: Episode VII and Indiana Jones IV, I didn't like them, they didn't represent the score as best as possible and I couldn't grasp the music, it left me cold. Because I wanted to like it, I've tried to combine the OST and the FYC. Meaning: splicing tracks apart and patching them back together in chronological order, all of it featuring remastered sound. Some of my new edits are audible, some of them arent. And some edits/crossfades of mine are really not very good. So don't expect another Star Wars (Thread 204325)! ;) Well, I think that I was able to improve the sound... to my ears the OST sounded quite strange.

Cover

For this release, I updated the cover just a few hours ago. I wanted to exchange the symbols I use with the ones I did for 'Mulan' (http://forums.ffshrine.org/showthread.php?t=188354&highlight=) last year. I also removed my Deluxe Edition banner from two of the covers (there are 5 front covers), in 2014 I wasn't yet tired of the design. All in all, the covers are nothing special, so, again, don't expect awesome quality covers like Heidl (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=428356) does them. My covers for this set do their job, nothing more (though I have done worse). BTW, for this cover I used the font 'Futura' for the Deluxe Edition banner for the first time instead of 'Federation' that was employed for every release before this one. As you all know, I kept the new font, it just looks better.

Before I talk too much again: have fun! :)

One of William's best action/adventure in a long time.
Vibrant. Catchy. A solid statement on Williams. If he had retired on this score, it would have been one hell of a swan song.
But then he did other stuff... :erm:

Thank you once again Sonic! :-D

To me, this a great score, fits the movie very well. Often it reminds of the Indy scores, which obviously isn't a bad thing ;)

The theme that can be heard on these tracks; 05. Escape from the Karaboudjan - between 0:58 and 1:10. 08. Capturing the Plane - pops up during most of the track.
Is absolutely marvelous! Unfortunately, in my opinion, it ends way too soon.

Anyway, I hope your DE will get more people interested in this otherwise fantastic score :-D

I love this score and I'm glad Sonic decided to make a deluxe edition for it, it's truly ones of Williams' best scores in recent years alongside The Force Awakens. Wasn't as big of a fan of his serious dramatic scores like Lincoln, War Horse and The Book Thief. And The Adventure Continues (the end credits on the FYC) is the best cue in the movie, hands down.

Your deluxe sounds so much crisper than the normal and FYC's that were released. I just wish the sessions were leaked, we're still missing a few cues in the movie, like the full Red Rackham and Haddock duel (we have a brief version as the first part of the end credits suite).

ITV recently rebooted Thunderbirds as a 22-minute animation series called Thunderbirds Are Go, and the music is composed by Ben & Nick Foster (who tend to rework Barry Gray's original themes into the score)

Season 1 was great, 2 was a masterpiece, and 3 was an absolute let-down. I can't believe how bad the quality of Season 3 was after seeing Seasons 1 & 2.

And I still need to see 'Hannibal' first since Fink said that it's very, very good.

Season 1 & 2 are great.
Season 3 tends to be more of an instagram series with lots of scenery and slow motion. It's easy to lose focus on the story.
Since they announced the cancellation with season 3 being the final season, watching season 3 as it came out (they announced after episode 2 or 3), you can tell that they knew they were going to get canned very soon as season 3 plays out very differently. It feels more like season 3 and (what-would-have-been) season 4 condensed into one season. It was pure chaos.

Now that it's out on bluray/dvd/streaming, it'll be easier to keep engaged if you do it all (season 3) within a small time frame.
Trying to replicate weekly release time is not advisable (for season 3) as the home video versions don't include "previously" segments. (unless you get HDTV rips)

The music is excellent throughout.
Seasons 1&2 I preordered the blurays as soon as they were announced. The CD's were too expensive for me to order.

of the soundtracks, Reitzell runs the Goldberg Variation through PaulStretch for an excellent effect based on the tpyical directing and cinematography of the series.
One of the best tracks to make it to the soundtrack.
here's a demo of what PaulStretch can do to any audio input:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsJdplLB1Bs
PaulStretch started the trend of "800%", which is technically correct. But either iteration of the program simply says "x8" or "8x".
800 is a bigger number so youtubers will run to that with their panties. :whatever:
Fans (not fannibals but just pure fans with respect) wanted the same stretched Goldberg Variation on the soundtrack and had been pleading for it since it first aired on NBC.
And it looks like we got spoiled to high waters with the 3 albums and the exclusive comic-con album.
Season 2 has the Goldberg Variation that everyone was waiting for.

You'll hear some repetition from the Hannibal film. A nice treat.

It's Vide Cor Meum.
Except it gets quickly overused to keep the attention of the "Fannibals" and their panties throwing around.
Vide Cor Meum is sadly overused since it appeared in Scott's "Kingdom of Heaven". (which has a history and reason why it's there and not more original score.)

Ugh.
The former has been in consideration for a while.
I'll get it when I decide a cheaper pair is no longer worthy.
I'm dismissing the latter, since it only has a long cable, as opposed to an additional short one.
I hear good things about Logitech's UE 4000, even though that's probably a lesser pair.
I consider something tomorrow.

Yeah, Sennheiser does not add a shorter cable as an option. A shame. Though you can buy those shorter cables from others. And if you consider a Logitech, try the UE 6000, its supposed to be even better (don't use the NC feature, though).

See, I have this mentality that I would get a cheaper pair first.
That way, I would actually be more surprised when a get a higher model.
The Logitech I'll put first, Since I feel most comfortable spending money on that now.

Thank you both for presenting this nice work, great to have this now, especially since there still is some Belgian folklore in the base of it all ... and now the wait is for the sequel to come out...

I have actually taken it upon myself to download as many of these deluxe editions as I can, for future preservation. These are unique in the soundtrack world and in many cases the definitive releases of certain scores (like Final Fantasy for example). SonicAdventure is a gift to the world of film music. As such, I will propably make a megathread containing most every Deluxe Edition Sonic has ever made, if of course he agrees with this?

Edit: I also forgot Fink and Heidl who are just as much a part of these as well. Thank you guys for the hard work that you do!

Edit 2: And of course all those posters who have kept these links alive by reuploading again and again. Your work is keeping this community alive and kicking!

You mean me though? Because that's also true. I just wouldn't want to take care of it, I'm far too lazy for it. But I will support it any way I can.
