Poll: Ask SonicAdventure a Deluxe Edition of your favorite score

and he will do the title most people voted for.

Many members of the forum know SonicAdventure's Deluxe Editions. They are selections of high quality audio of scores that in most cases follow the chronological sequence used in the movies, edited with the ultimate goal of a pleasant listening experience. This is done through skilled mastering or remastering of the available sources, applying diverse modifications to the sound and often including the grouping of several cues into a single track and the omission of redundant ones. As a personal labour of love, this is never a "complete" edit, it may be different from an "extended" one and couldn't possibly match the preferences of all listeners; but each new release in this forum generates a warm welcome from many enthusiasts and experts that seem to enjoy them.

The original message continues in the Spoiler.

He has fulfilled occasional requests only for friends or in case he liked the score. As an exception from that personal rule of his, the members of the forum will have the possibility to ask for a Deluxe Edition at their discretion during the next weeks, and he will do the most demanded one. However he asked for the fulfillment of the following requirements (more details in the Spoiler):

High quality audio in the additional pieces. True lossless FLAC or true 320 kbps if MP3/AAC.
Experts on the movie and/or the score willing to provide information or help.
For convenience, the forum rules must permit the posting of that score in a thread.

Voting.

The voting period will finish at the end of September. As detailed in the Spoiler, the poll may be extended if the circumstances were to make it advisable.
Any forum member can vote if his or her "Join Date" is last month (July 2014) or older. Multiple votes are allowed in a single message, and only the last post will be computed.

It is not necessary that all the conditions are met when casting a vote. Someone else may offer the needed materials or expertise during the voting period.

Furthermore, as a bonus, SonicAdventure will choose another score of his liking from the final list, so even a title with a single vote may be the second lucky one!

Additional details are wrapped in this Spoiler:

- Source materials.

Besides the main album and any official promos of the score, the audio from recording sessions or material of similar quality is needed. In any case, the material must be in good shape and preferably true lossless, although MP3, AAC, OGG or WMA with at least 320 kbps will be accepted if they are first encodings of the originals. Other lossy transcodings and audio from DVD or BluRay are excluded, to prevent the submission of audio taken from surround channels and other unappropiate resources.

The final quality assessment will happen after the poll has finished and a winner has been announced. In case the material offered for it doesn't meet the requirements, the poll will be re-opened for another two weeks so that participants get the chance to change their vote. Regardless of the previous, Sonic may ask privately at any moment for samples from the leading group to confirm in advance if the sound quality is suitable and to avoid that the poll has to be reopened.

The posting of URLs related to the conversation is expected, but this poll is in the General Discussion forum, and sharing download links should be avoided. Please, use PMs if you intend to request or share files.

- Input of experts on the score and film.

This kind of work needs comprehensive knowledge about the film and the score. There are many aspects to evaluate in the selection and management of the sequence of cues, it's likely that SonicAdventure won't be familiar with the chosen title, so the availability of one or more experts is also a required condition.

- Excluded labels.

To free everyone from the need to use Personal Messages when sharing the resulting Deluxe Edition, the forum rules must allow posting the download link in threads. Those titles which can only be shared through PMs won't be eligible. That includes releases by the labels Varse Sarabande, FSM and others. More information here.

- Polling period.

The poll will end on 1st of October at 00:00 UTC. However, the voting period may be extended depending on the participation or to give participants the chance to provide suitable sources or experts. Don't drag us to court on this; this is an experiment, no contract. We don't want to exclude anyone's opinion or the provision of the source material due to, for example, summer holidays. The first and most important thing here should be music and the opinion of the people.

- Change of vote.

Some voted scores will end up being discarded if no recording sessions are known nor any expert help is offered; and some voters may change their mind after possibly noticing a different score mentioned by another member. So, to have useful votes, their change is allowed until the end of the polling period and through an eventual extension of it.

To modify your preference, please edit your message or delete it and cast it again in a new post. Only the scores of the last voting-post will be computed.

- About this poll.

I helped SonicAdventure in the preparation of this post and every part of it was included or supervised by him, but this is a personal comment to let you know that the poll had its origin in a joke between us. That led him to fancy the idea that the members had a chance to get a Deluxe Edition of the score they wanted, instead of receiving one chosen by him, and ended up becoming a nice perspective of music and fun for all.

The poll is presented in that spirit: for the music and for the community. Everyone's vote and opinions are welcome and deserve respect, although, naturally, the definitive title won't make everybody equally happy. In relation to this, it should be noticed that Sonic's kind offer implies his own acceptance of the results and the commitment to work on a score that may not fit his preferences either.

Feel free to ask us questions about the poll process, and to address him comments related to the music and its technical aspects.

Yes, it's true: choose your score you want to be turned into a "Deluxe Edition". This poll has been started in cooporation with me. Everything that's written here has been done so with my full support and agreement.

Though kooke has been understating his efforts greatly in the original post up above. I wouldn't have been able to pull this off, organizing it, finding the right words, considering all those possibilities. In short: every little praise should be directed towards him.

So, there's only one thing left to say: Have fun! :)

Hah, ya I think there'll be quite a few Zimmer requests. For some reason, at the moment, all I can think of is TASM2 which is weird.

Another one is Lawrence of Arabia, although idk how deluxe you can make that. I really need to think.....

Yes, please: use the complete form if you are voting; it will be easier to inspect the thread and do the counting that way. But post freely anything else, preferences, provisional lists or whatever, and remember that Varse and FSM are not eligible. You can have a look at the label of a score in online databases like MusicBrainz (http://www.musicbrainz.org), Discogs (http://www.discogs.com), SoundtrackCollector (http://www.soundtrackcollector.com), AllMusic (http://www.allmusic.com), or Rate Your Music (http://www.rateyourmusic.com) .

There's a long month ahead and plenty of time to use the thinking caps. Best wishes to all.

Actually, I fully intend to post some of these, just not now and not all at once. The only one that seems to have a particularly high level of interest is Harry Potter anyway. And to be frank, the lower quality leaks that most of these have sound well enough already when compared with their lossless counterparts. A new master or remaster on the other hand would actually be worth posting, especially if it's done as well as Sonic can do.

Kewl. I can understand why Harry Potter's the only one with real interest behind it. I've never cared much about sound quality either, but for, say, Captain America, I'd love to see what SonicAdventure could do with it.

Not sure if it is possible unless you incorporate elements from the .m4a Complete Score. The newly mixed cues suffer from serious limiting which brought out all the choir nuances and softer instruments, but in the process almost drowned out IMHO the best parts of the score, that cool brass.

Exactly, scores like Inception already have adequate treatment. I'd rather the winner be a score that could use some more polish. At least let it be something that's not likely to get a legitimate expansion any time soon.

Nope, I didnt have the sessions for Inception. And I wont do TRON:Legacy again :D

BTW, I just LOVE how you guys have started to discuss which one of the scores actually might deserve treatment and which one already has saturated the "market".

And from the ones already listed, there are some Id love to do a Deluxe Edition for. I wont say which since that might influence the vote.

Oh wow, what an amazing idea! I've been an avid fan of yours ever since the "Harry Potter" Deluxe Editions (hey, maybe we could get someone to leak "Prisoner Of Azkaban" for this competition, hey?) Here's hoping you can make our dreams come true once again, SonicAdventure!

==========================================
Score: Alien
Composer: Elliot Goldenthal
Year: 1992
High quality material [format]: OST (FLAC), Isolated Blu-Ray Score (Lossy FLAC)
Expert input available: Due to the variety of differences between the tracks from the OST and the Isolated Score, this one is a bit of a challenge if you don't know your way around the score. Thankfully, I happen to be an expert on the subject!
Optional remarks: Goldenthal's music almost always has a lot of intricate complicities occurring within most of his tracks, so it's such a shame to hear the vast quality differences between the (in my opinion) excellently mastered OST and and the not-so-excellent Isolated Score (not that it were the rippers fault, as this is how the score is presented). The constant volume fluctuations and strange mastering really doesn't do justice to many of the cues here, and hence would love to see a merging of the best material from both sources into one amazing package!
==========================================

==========================================
Score: Dinosaur
Composer: James Newton Howard
Year: 2000
High quality material [format]: OST (FLAC), FYC (FLAC)
Expert input available: There are actually a few differences between a couple of the OST tracks and the FYC that I haven't seen anyone else pick up on yet, so I guess I consider myself a foremost expert? Hehe.
Optional remarks: This one is kind of a no-brainer. You really seem to be the foremost champion in remastering JNH material and have loved all of your previous remasterings of this amazing composer's work. In particular in this score, fixing the issues of the first CD of the FYC score (where most of the tracks begin in the fading moments of the previous track, hence most of the tracks are missing little snippets at the beginning) would really lift this score up.
==========================================

==========================================
Score: The Last Airbender
Composer: James Newton Howard
Year: 2010
High quality material [format]: OST (FLAC), Recording Sessions (Lossy FLAC)
Expert input available: Excuse the grandstanding for a moment here, but I am the foremost subject of Avatar: The Last Airbender material on this site! The foremost!
Optional remarks: The addition of the choir alone makes the recording sessions an absolute must, but again, much like Alien, the phenomenal use of every section of the orchestra and precise instrumentations (both of the familiar and speciality instruments) absolutely begs for proper mastering/staging to really bring it to life. The OST was excellent in this regard, and I hope that someday someone (*nudge, nudge*) might be able to do the same for the sessions.
==========================================

==========================================
Score: The Time Machine
Composer: Klaus Badelt
Year: 2004
High quality material [format]: OST (FLAC), Complete Score (FLAC)
Expert input available: Well, I did make my own thread on it, so I guess I'm pretty knowledgeable on the subject.
Optional remarks: This one is not going to win, but someone has to make this score's plight known so I guess it's going to be me. Oh, if only gain levels and masterings of the Complete Score were bought up to the same standard as the OST, how complete it would make many people's lives. I know The Dimensioner would appreciate it; considering the version he put together to try and bring together the OST and Complete Score (he ended up deleting it and asking it not be shared around anymore due to not being happy with the final product). I don't think this score is in as dire need of a remaster as I'm making out, but given the intense interest in the score, it would certainly make a lot of people's days. I'd love to see a score I myself have so painstakingly researched be given the proper dues it deserves.
==========================================

==========================================
Score: The Village
Composer: James Newton Howard
Year: 2004
High quality material [format]: OST (FLAC), Recording Sessions (320kbps)
Expert input available: If only you could see the amount of material I've written on the subject of this score...
Optional remarks: Honestly, the sound in this release sounds fine to me, but given the excellence of your remastering of "Lady In The Water" and it being one of the more popular votes here, I'll add mine to it as well.
==========================================

==========================================
Score: Waterworld
Composer: James Newton Howard
Year: 1995
High quality material [format]: OST (FLAC), Recording Sessions (FLAC)
Expert input available: Actually, not that much!
Optional remarks: Given it's one of the few JNH leaks in FLAC, thought I'd chip it in. As an aside, I swear I didn't expect James Newton Howard to dominate my list as much as I did, but I guess the leaks of the recording sessions lend themselves very well to your remastering efforts, especially given what we've already seen from you!
==========================================

Honourable mentions:

Blood Diamond: You can't go wrong with more James Newton Howard, especially given that this was really the last of his high-profile scores to leak in complete form. Sadly, the recording sessions aren't available in anything higher than 256kbps to the best of my knowledge, so I guess that excludes it...

Atlantis: The Lost Empire: While it would be nice to see those extra 14 minutes added to your amazing remastering, given you've expressed your opinions about not wanting to return to that score I thought I'd leave it out. Oh well, the sound quality is pretty up-to-scratch to my forgiving ears anyways.

How To Train Your Dragon: Varese Sarabande, sadly enough. Oh well, at least the Night Fury edition fixes some of the problems from the problematic OST.

Thanks everybody for your participation. We hadn't foreseen the possibility of multiple voting and it's being a beneficial approach. The votes still must be in a single message and the only valid voting post will be the latest one. As explained in the first message, it's up to you to edit your initial choice or delete it and post a new message, should you want to modify it.

Things are harder to track this way, so I may start using the "Like" function as mark on some posts, ticking and unticking them. You can just ignore that for now: those changes will be for personal use and won't mean anything about the actual content of the messages. Excuses for any inconvenience.

Things are harder to track this way, so I may start using the "Like" function as mark on some posts, ticking and unticking them. You can just ignore that for now: those changes will be for personal use and won't mean anything about the actual content of the messages. Excuses for any inconvenience.

That sounds like a pretty good way to keep track of things.

==========================================

I'd go for that. Never could finish the isolated score rip but largely due to the eclectic nature of the complete score. I'm one for eclectic stuff, even from Goldenthal, but Alien 3 is one difficult score for me to sit and listen to. Now if SonicAdventure wanted to make a deluxe edition but exclude certain tracks, I'm sure I could handle that too. I love complete scores but even in mastered form, some of them just really aren't all that spectacular in that form so every now and again for my personal enjoyment, it's not uncommon for me to delete tracks from the score playlist. Alien 3 has survived the chopping block but only because I can't exactly find a flow that works for me. Too much of this, not enough of that, yada yada yada...then there are the tracks that actually NEED to be edited. Like Ghost and the Darkness, for instance. I had been waiting years to hear it in complete form but found the listening experience upon receiving it very unsatisfying due to a number of problems ranging from silences at beginning/end, inconsistent gain levels, most of the tracks lacked proper fade-outs, etc.

SonicAdventure usually has a good ear about the projects he goes for and it certainly helps that he has a soft spot for James Newton Howard. Whatever project he decides on next, I'm sure it'll be as amazing as the last. King Kong, while an older edit, was definitely an amazing re-master that followed my "Deluxe Edition" version for the most part but naturally, didn't have overblown sound like mine did. He taught me a lot during our all-too-brief chats which has helped me on several of my previous edits. Not physically helped me, just gave me some pointers as to the software he uses and such. I don't think I know it quite as well as he does but I have my flow that works for me. I'm sure there are higher quality ways of doing things than how I do them and I'm likely to find that out eventually but until then I'll keep exploring new techniques.

Anyway, some of you may have noticed my inbox is full. I do apologize but at this time, I am not able to personally respond to re-up requests and the like due to real-life hitting me for the first time at 26 so I do not want PM's requesting re-ups right now. I just do not have the time for it.

This is really cool.

I'll have to take that long time for the dead line.
Some real heavy thinking to do.

Was there ever a DE for Kamen's X-Men?
I know there's a low-res complete release.

I have a question: when you say "Multiple votes are allowed in a single message, and only the last post will be computed." does that mean that everything in the post will count as a vote, but it must all be in one post, or that only the last item in the post will be counted?

There is, though I have to admit a Deluxe Edition for this might turn out interesting. The complete release's sound is pretty underwhelming; it's a great score, but it just doesn't sound very impressive - I don't feel as though there's any sense of dynamics. I've never listened to the OST, so I couldn't say if that sounds better or not. Maybe the quality of the leak is to blame...

Yes, it means that all those scores in the same post will be added to the list of candidates. Since the modification of votes is allowed, some users may edit the original and others may choose to delete it and start a new message. But others may forget to delete the first, for example. In those cases, the only valid vote (either with single or multiple scores) will be the last one.

The wording of that part surely can be improved. If anyone has a suggestion for that or any other part of the first post, please PM me. :)

Score: Requiem for a Dream
Composer: Clint Mansell
Year: 2000
High quality material [format]: FLAC [soundtrack album, remixed album with additional score bits]
Expert input available: I made an edit a while back, but my production was pretty sloppy.
Optional remarks: I believe the only missing music from the available sources is Kronos tuning up near the beginning.

Score: Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
Composer: John Williams
Year: 2005
High quality material [format]: I'm not positive what all is available. Other people know far more about Star Wars music sources than I do, but I think the VGM is ripped in true 320.
Expert input available: I know the score quite well from listening to other edits, but I'm not the best person to count on for source information.

Score: Spider-Man 3

Score: Die Hard With a Vengeance
Composer: Michael Kamen
Year: 1995
High quality material [format]: FLAC [LLL expanded release], uncertain

Composer: Harry Gregson-Williams
Year: 2005
High quality material [format]: FLAC [soundtrack album], 320 [leaked sessions]

Actually, I find most of Goldenthal's expanded/complete scores to be difficult to sit through. Particularly Titus; as eclectic and schizophrenic the album is, the complete score has a lot of drab, atonal underscore throughout. Doesn't help that the gain levels are really low so most of the quieter tracks might as well be silence if you're listening to them on the train, etc.

I detailed my thoughts on the isolated score for Alien here (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/alien-3-complete-score-updated-82325/3.html#post2679049) so I won't repeat them. But I do think that SonicAdventure's tendency to combine certain tracks into suites, as well as leaving out certain redundant material could work really well for Alien. I think between the album and the isolated score exists a happy medium that could be breathtaking if remastered right. Which, considering who we're talking about here, is almost a certainty. As for what tracks to include and exclude, I might have some ideas...

Agree with everything in that second paragraph, too.

Ah yes, the infamous mutilation of the 20th Century Fox Logo. Fincher wanted Goldenthal to let the audience know they were "fucked from the first minute", and he certainly achieved it there! Surprised to not have seen it done again in other films (though they did include it on the Intrada release of Predator for some reason). Didn't know about the mono/stereo switch though; that's really cool!

A word about "The Village". I already did a Deluxe Edition in 2012. Just for myself, never intended to be shared. The additional tracks are in 320 kbps, transcoded from 128 or 160 kbps material. Their sound sucks - big time. Compression artifacts everywhere. I won't do it again unless someone provides access (for me) to the original session files.

There actually is a reason why I demanded (yes, I have to use such a strong word) material that's of sufficient quality. I use many signal processing techniques to process material, lossy material then has a tendency to show errors much sooner than lossless material. That's why I begged kooke to mention desired bitrates of at least 320 kbps.

I therefore feel that I have to warn to you about this (and I'm not doing this lightly): I will not use material of lesser quality. Period.

If the result of this vote turns out to be "The Village", I will only do it again in case someone provides me either the lossless sessions or not-transcoded material of at least 320 kbps.

Forgive me for sounding harsh. But I have to start somewhere.

Have a listen to my version of Ghost and the Darkness then -> Thread 176418

It isn't the best but it's expanded, sounds well enough and provides - within limits - a cohesive listening experience.

Actually, I try to keep as much stuff as possible. I usually try to put myself into the position of the composer... which is hard since I lack musical training. Secondly, I cannot know the intentions of the composer. I can guess but that's unreliable. On the other hand... if it's redundant it will be killed off. And many of the so-called-alternates aren't so very alternate at all. In many cases, the only differences are little snippets here and there or a different mix. Ergo: redundancy again :D

Don't beat yourself up about your skills. Right now, I'm doing King Kong again. In part because your crossfades were in some cases way superior than mine. Though I might have exaggerated my tendency to form suites a bit; the second half of the score plays like an action-tour-de-force, tracks are seperate but many run into each other. Will have to listen to it closely once it's finished, hoping that it might not be too taxing. And I plan on beefing up the sound considerably. I want something else, something more charming. Again, your release finally caused me to revisit King Kong.

a bit off topic, but this was introduced by varese sarabande's predator release and not intrada ;)
when i received the cd i really wondered why they included it. but it did work for alien 3. such an underrated movie. i wished fincher would go back and finish it.

Yes, that was one of his conditions, Lockdown. His reason for this was just convenience in this experiment, and like with the minimum quality of the source materials, I thought "Well, I can graciously concede him this". I don't have real numbers about the amount of downloads of his editions, but judging from the usual ratio downloads/feedback in the forum, it must be quite big. Presumably, the interest for the score chosen in this poll would be bigger and would need a lot of extra time dealing with PMs. But you can post your vote anyway, or just a comment. The provisional list will show all the titles and it will be interesting for everybody to know about others' preferences. What would be your choice?

And as general note: anything related to the scores is on-topic as far as I'm concerned. Please feel at home to chat.

As kooke has already said, its a pain to send private messages for Varese or FSM. It gets especially unnerving after some months / years when people continue to ask for the links - all the while ignoring the OP (and several posts inside the not-too-long thread) clearly stating that the links have gone.

That reason alone prevents me from sharing three or four older Deluxe Editions (mostly Varese, nothing spectacular).

I guess that do you mean this edition? Thread 113432 I didn't noticed that one hahahaha So I'll download and heard it. Thank you for the information, I love Hook but the problems with the volume makes me crazy... I cannot understand why they published the score in this way...

I love Hook but the problems with the volume makes me crazy... I cannot understand why they published the score in this way...

Several reasons:

1. Cash. Mastering costs money. The more that needs to be done, the more itll cost. Small labels cannot afford it so they order the usual package: making it as loud as possible (-> Superman Returns)
2. Some labelheads are idiots. MV Gerhard (LLL) for example.
3. Second-rate mastering engineers. Some of the employed engineers arent the best. On the other hand, even the best produce shit on occasion... though everyone has a bad day now and then.
4. Lack of time. A deadline is a deadline. The product has to be delivered, no matter what. Subleties dont matter in that case.

In the end, it might be one of those reasons or a combination. Besides, they can get away with it as most people simply dont mind. Theyre happy to finally own the score, so happy that it will diminish any issues about sound. I regard them as dumb cattle of course... but objectively speaking its perfectly allright since everyone has different preferences.

Because thats all that was available?

Even so... if I can do it, they can too. I only have the CD, they have the mastertapes. And the composer. And the producer. In some cases, even the director. So they should be able to do it. But they dont... see above.

I only have the CD, they have the mastertapes.

Not all of them, some cues had to be taken from the film stems with all edits and volume drops retained.

Of course that doesn't change the fact that they could have smoothed those out with an editing program....

Yes, that's true, even with volume issues I'm "happy" of having an expanded edition of Hook! hahaha I don't know how much time did you guys need to adjust properly the volume in this scores, but I get that is a tedious work but... Come on, is not that some tracks are louder, is that inside the tracks some parts are! And they are suposedly a high quality label. Also, if I was John Williams I'll have said something about this bad product...

Dammit.

I had a post done about two votes.
But, when i went to post, the forum was in a deadlock so it never went through.

here's what i remember:

==========================================
Score: X-Men
Composer: Michael Kamen
Year: 2000
High quality material [format]: Decca [flac] / complete [lossy, can't remember the bitrate]
Expert input available: -
Optional remarks: If the complete don't have any hi-res versions available, you can scrap this. The retail is fine enough. Just extra content from the complete sound like they're dying. "Bar fight" is a nice cueue, but very hard to hear.
==========================================

==========================================
Score: Snow Falling On Cedars
Composer: James Newton Howard
Year: 1991
High quality material [format]: Decca [FLAC]
Expert input available: Becareful where you get a rip from! Most out there have had normalization applied via EAC settings. I've not found a perfect rip yet.
Optional remarks: Such a nice score but could use work here and there. When I play it as a whole, I often forget what's playing because it gets too low and unintersting in some parts. Tara could breathe a little more. For such an epic track, it's pretty quiet.

I'm curious about this as well.

I hope you're not misunderstanding "isolated score" for "dvd-rips/bd-rips for editing", bluemonkey.

To everyone's knowledge, there is no blu-ray release with an isolated score.

It will be added again to the table if anyone confirms it. As you know, SonicAdventure excluded that kind of material for the re/mastering but it doesn't hurt to know what are the best additional sources known for each score, so I'm including such info if it was present in the votes.

If you're gonna use JWFan, this thread (http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15036&page=1)'s a bit more useful. If you follow the guide () there, the only really difficult edit is "The Money Exchange / Recruiting."

It's also worth noting that the film version of "Yerousnalaim Chel Zahav" was licensed from the film "Pour Sacha." Similarly, the film version of "OYF'N Pripetshok" was licensed from Mark Isham's Billy Bathgate. I have the former track in FLAC. The latter is available on the Milan release of Isham's score.

My current edit looks like this:

Disc 1

Por una Cabeza (1m3 Take 94)
Celos (1m6 Take 58)
Nazi March Beat (2m2b Take 112)
The Money Exchange / Recruiting (OST Track 5)
Gloomy Sunday (4m2 Take 97)
Deine Augen Sind Dein Herz (4m4 Take 77)
In Einen Kleinen Cafe in Hernals (4m3 Take 83)
Stolen Memories (OST Track 9 from START-3:04)
OYF'N Pripetshok / Nacht Aktion (OST Track 6)
The Perlman Family (OST Track 9 from 3:04-END)
Milosc Ci Wszystko Wybaczy 12m1a Take 102 (Vocal)
Immolation (OST Track 3)
Making the List (OST Track 10)
Give Me Your Names (OST Track 11 from START-2:14 + 16m2 Take 117 Ending)
Auschwitz-Birkenau (OST Track 8)
The Returning Women (18m1 Take 32 Opening + OST Track 11 from 2:24-END)
I Could Have Got More (19m2/20m1 Take 9 + Insert Take 123 in the middle)
Yeroushalaim Chel Zahav (Pour Sacha Track 4)
Theme from Schindler's List (OST Track 1)
Remembrances (OST Track 4)
Theme from Schindler's List (Reprise) (Piano part of OST Track 14 + EC Piano Overlay Take 140)

Disc 2
Remembrances (With Itzhak Perlman) (OST Track 13)
Jewish Town (Krakow Ghetto - Winter '41) [Concert Suite] (OST Track 2)
Por una Cabeza (1m3 Take 92)
Celos (1m6 Take 57)
The Money Exchange (Original - Take 36)
THe Money Exchange (Revision #1 - Take 37)
THe Money Exchange (Revision #2 - Take 39)
THe Money Exchange (Revision #3 - Take 40)
THe Money Exchange (Revision #4 - Take 63)
THe Money Exchange (Revision #4 - Take 64)
Recruiting (Take 41)
Recruiting (Take 42)
The Perlman Family (Alternate) (10m1 Take 52)
Milosc Ci Wszystko Wybaczy (12m1a Take 99)
The Burial Scene: Immolation (Instrumental) (14m2 Take 48)
I Could Have Got More (Album Version) (OST Track 7)
Yeroushalaim Chel Zahav (Album Version) (OST Track 12)
Remembrances (Alternate) (20m4 Take 71)
Theme from Schindler's List (Recorder) (Recorder Theme Take 86)

Obviously, yours wouldn't include as many alternates, but I think you get the idea.

Thanks for the shout-out. It is complex in that it's 4 full CDs worth of material; nearly every single cue has several takes and considering the film chopped the music up in places it's nearly impossible to replicate some cues as they are heard in the film. Finding the correct take for cues along with titles for the unreleased cues (all tracks had slate and take #'s instead of titles) were the hardest parts.

I've given up many times but then I found that assembly sheet from JWFan (link in the comments section of my post) which allowed me to at least provide a listenable album that improves on the already amazing OST album.

==========================================

There cannot be a definitive version of this score. It's impossible for numerous reasons: several different versions of the movie. Which one should be considered? The first theatrical cut? The first Director's Cut (before the movie was released)? The second Director's Cut?

Furthermore: which music is the definitive one? The version Vangelis intended? Or the pieces not by him used in the movie?

I would just copy the tracklist from Intrada and use the version Goldsmith intended. I would not try to mirror the score used in the movie. However, the sound could definitely use an improvement.

And Raiders... I have been thinking about this myself. But what do you mean by 'woolly'?

Well, there are various sources for Raiders:

The Concord CD

The Concord prototype

The Steve Hoffman mastered DCC LP/CD (the LP has a short bit of music not in the DCC CD or the Concord)

The normal Bootlegs

The Vernon Wilmer (VWVWVWV on youtube) Boot.

All of these are necessary for a complete presentation of the score.

Here is my edit, you can listen to it for reference if you feel the need.

Do you have the source files should I at some point in the future need them? I wouldn't know where to start to search for them. And I definitely wouldn't use the youtube source, those just sound too bad, especially if I want to do some processing.

I have the original WAV files he used to make the videos, they actually have better sound for one of the cues (the other source sounds tinny, though there is a tradeoff for some distortion).

And I have all the rest of the files as well.

Maybe that's not the right word but... all the flaws typical of late 70s Williams recordings from Jaws to Star Wars. They seem fraught with problems. You've probably read Recording The Star Wars Saga (http://www.malonedigital.com/starwars.pdf), for example. It's been a while since I listened to Raiders very closely but I remember it having a lot of the usual issues, tape hiss and so on. And I remember listening to the other major remaster of Raiders (DCC?) and thinking it sounded like shit, recorded in some kind of tunnel.

But then this was the late 70s, so you're never going to make it sound like Avatar. And I don't know the first thing about remastering film scores, so there's every chance I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about ;) Still, you have worked some serious miracles with other scores and I've downloaded no less than thirty of them now, so I'd be interested to see what you could do there.

Actually, if you wouldn't mind me going a little off-topic I actually have a question about Alien, since I've only just started listening to it. What's the deal with the first 1:20 of "Acid Test"? It's not on the first disc (i.e: the score as Goldsmith intended to be written in the film) but it's also not a part of the rescored alternates either. So, what's the deal? Where is it suppose to play, and why isn't it included with the main presentation? On the two compilation albums (The Alien Trilogy (1996) and Alien: A Biomechanical Symphony (2009)) it's listed as the track "The Door". Huh? Actually, that brings up a good question; where did these compilation albums get these titles? Tracks like "Hyper Sleep" weren't included on the original album, yet it's included on the first compilation album, which was released more than a decade before the Intrada release.

In no way do I find it boring at all, that you want Raiders. I actually added it to my vote a few days ago, and it's the one that will eventually be counted - because it's the last one I posted. I have been on a Raiders kick ever since it was on Spike last Saturday afternoon, my Dad and my brother and I were watching it. And that's when I downloaded Faleel's complete version, which is why I requested a cover for it in the Custom Covers Thread. Next to Jurassic Park, it's probably my favorite Williams score.

And Raiders... I have been thinking about this myself. But what do you mean by 'woolly'?

Glad to hear you've been thinking about it, it's somewhat promising.

I also agree with what miggyb said, most of the score just had that old 70's hiss/static sound that's present on most recordings of that era. I can hear it when listening to 3m01 The Book, my favorite cue. I think it's safe to say, even after my mammoth list of what I voted on - that in the end, I want Raiders to be the winning Deluxe Edition. I would be very happy.

Don't worry, DAKoftheOTA: all the votes will be counted if they are in a single message, and their order inside it is not important. It's only in case someone casts a second *voting-message* (a separate post) that the first one gets cancelled. That's simply to keep a little order avoiding that everyone's scores are scattered in many messages and to prevent the case of multiple-posting with repeated titles.

Another clarification, for new participants: the table of the first message is not the list of eligible scores but just shows the provisional results of what people has voted for. So, your vote can include scores that are not listed in that table yet. I thought it was worth to say this because a friend got that wrong idea when he visited the thread.

And a last note to remind you that any edit of the votes is allowed: modification, deletion or addition. Those who voted for a single score or two can add more at any moment if they like.

Alien sounds like shit. You can say it, I certainly won't mind because it's true. And Raiders sounds mediocre - but it can be improved (trust me on that ;)) - it cannot sound like Avatar... mostly because the scores are completely different, one contains synths, the other does not. They were recorded at different places by different engineers. Finally, one was recorded when analogue technology was still fashionable, the other was completely digitally recorded. One was recorded with vinyl distribution in mind, the other was not.

The DCC version is especially horrible because of that piercing brass. Which is caused by Steve Hoffman's way of remastering using distorting tube equipment by default and because he doesn't know that much about scores in general.

Thanks for the new nominees, Krafty -PM'ing you with a few indications-, and no problem with the sources. They may be known by others or perhaps someone may decide to freshen those precious and give them this good use. Reminds me of the story of Tycho Brahe, the astronomer who obtained very precise positional data of the planets, and his assistant Johannes Kepler, who had the brains to achieve good scientific results but wasn't allowed to access all the information. Humanity had to wait one long year until Kepler had a chance to study the archives, to eventually give us his Laws of planetary motion. We could have now the technology of 2015, had his boss been less protective. But there's another sad part: since Kepler only was granted the access after Brahe's death, the Danish astronomer lived all his days having no clue about the real wonders that were hidden in his data. Oh, boy, what a waste...

I did my best... :D

There are two scores by JNH that never, sort of, 'fell into place' for me: The Hunger Games & Snow White and the Huntsman. They did have their good parts but for me, most pieces were sounding quite pedestrian. I doubt that one of them will be the winner, so it might be years before I start working on them.

Just a bit of advice, You are probably not going to want to do Fellowship of the Ring, its a messy situation.

The Complete Recordings CD is pretty much a isolated score/complete score hybrid with loops and tracked music retained when the Composer felt it "worked", Elements (Choir, instruments, etc.) dialed out, and sections of music edited out.

almost all of the unreleased material is only available through DVD (Surround mix, DVD menus, special feature videos with music "isolated" via center channel removal) and Game rips.

Definitely not. It would be stupid. Adding hours of alternates (which are probably not so alternate at all) to this endless well of music... what would we end up with: 15 hours instead of 'only' 11 hours?

Good! Be prepared to receive a message from me within the next days (don't know when I'll have the time).

---------- Post added at 10:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:26 AM ----------

---------- Post added at 10:35 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:31 AM ----------

The Book? Can't seem to remember it... well, doesn't matter right now. I've always been happy with the Concorde release but many people seem to have lots of issues with it. And even if it isn't winner, it's my favourite Indy score alongside Indy 4 so I will probably do it anyway (though it might take, for example, a year).

Doesnt the concord versions of Indy and Raiders have major Pitch Issues..... I would love Raiders to be done proper with the Pitch Issues solved

I am not talking about the alternates (those can be easily ignored).

I am talking about film edits and tracking being retained on the CR, introducing redundancy and impeded/impaired musical flow, which can only be restored to its original state by substandard quality sources.

Right now, the four leading scores are:

1. The Last Samurai (8 votes)
2. Braveheart & Spider Man 3 (7 votes each)
3. The Avengers (6 votes)

I hope, I got it right.

As a personal comment, I think its not very clever to vote for Braveheart. A child could assemble its own Deluxe Edition using the material thats available, besides, it already sounds well enough. Now to the leading score (Last Samurai): does it exist in fully lossless FLAC? In case it does, might the person having it in lossless step forward and contact me via private message? I could work with the 320 kbps version (doesnt seem to be a transcode) though for heavy processing FLAC would be better. Oh, I wont use that for trading, Im not interested in that, I just want to assess the possibilities (I would only need 1 or 2 tracks from it, not the whole thing).

I understand your view, Fink, but I wouldn't say it would be stupid. For most of the voters the unnatural thing would be throwing away their preferences and not to vote the favorite score they'd like most as a Deluxe Edition (did anyone do that?). Not everybody has the knowledge to do good audio editing or the conviction that they would do something close to what SonicAdventure does, even for an "easy" case -I certainly don't-. And the unavailability of sessions should not prevent voting to any score, as is the same for all: optional for voting and needed to win.

But I agree that it's interesting for all to be aware of what level of improvement may be expected in the scores, to make the most of the votes: in this case some may decide to favour an alternative favorite if its official version has more problems and such Deluxe would make them happier.

Nice, I wouldn't mind any of these guys winning. I can omit Braveheart, idk why I even voted for it. Probably because it's such an acclaimed score and I figured it could use your touch. But if the sessions are nowhere to be found, it does seem pointless.

I have the original WAV files he used to make the videos, they actually have better sound for one of the cues (the other source sounds tinny, though there is a tradeoff for some distortion).

And I have all the rest of the files as well.

Fal, you wouldn't happen to have the "Concord prototype" would you? I've heard it doesn't have the pitch errors of the final product.

I realize I'm the only one who voted for these last two entries, but these are two amazing fun scores from Goldsmith which could use some remastering, since the the mix from the isolated tracks is fairly flat and low. I would even suggest Sonic consider this outside of the poll, but I don't think he's a fan of Goldsmith's music from that period (60's)...

So there is some genuine lossless material around? Thats good. One of the reasons why I never did Spider Man 3 was the lack of lossless material (and I like Chris Young).

Some, yes. Not as much as I'd like though.

since I'm huge fan of Jerry Goldsmith!!! I vote for "Hollow Man (Deluxe Edition)"!!! I hope it gets more votes!!! well everybody already knew this score is fantastic "Varse Sarabande Edition is OKAY!!! but the complete score edition isn't" that's why it is suitable to have a more clean & deluxe edition on this one!!! thanks a lot and good luck guys!!!

Edited my vote in post #94 to The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Would love to see a first full massive 24/48 SonicAdventure release. IMHO definitely befitting for the winning album of this thread to make it stand out from the rest.

Ive thought about this for years. But it cannot be done. The complete score was derived from the Goldsmith-commentary audio track which itself was derived from the film stems. So its impossible to restore natural dynamics.

I agree - though many people wouldnt know what to do with it. But as a compromise, I could offer the winning release in 320 kBit/s aac in 48 kHz. With the right decoding, you can easily extract 24/48.

How about one regular 16/44.1 FLAC download and a separate 24/48 FLAC download links for those who do know what to do with them?

You dont know how often Ive thought about this myself. On the other hand, who would care for something like that? Two or three people. The rest would just be confused and I would have to wait countless hours for the upload to finish. And in truth, 24/48 isnt so different from 16/44,1. Even 24/96 isnt...

I think you'd be surprised how many people would welcome this. Even if you spoiler tag the 24-bit release and give a lengthy description about how it is probably indistinguishable from the non-spoilered 16/44.1 upload and will be a long download etcetera, there will still be plenty of people interested. I know I will be. One can never know what the future might bring in terms of our hearing capability/audio reproduction, and when that day comes I will probably thank myself for not discarding HD audio tech. Especially now that the price per GB is so laughably low.

One can never guess what the distant future brings, but I was thinking more of a device that connects directly to the brain and converts sound waves into something we can comprehend. I do not see much future in actually altering our ears, though some animals do have exceptional hearing so there is still far more to be achieved even in that area.

But I will not derail the thread any further.

I am surprised to see so many people vote for the same albums.

Our hearing certainly wont get better with advanced age; I dont need to mention, that even a 25-year old cannot sufficiently hear frequencies beyond 20 kHz. The current 24/96 or 24/192 craze is nothing more than a fancy idea by some companies to squeeze some more money out of customers - in most cases. Show me one true 24/96 release that sounds better than its CD counterpart at 16/44,1. Im sure youd be able to mention one or two. But are you sure that those differences arent caused by different mastering? Because thats the reason for sonic differences most of the time. People are fooled and most audiophiles are too dumb to notice (simply because they refuse to have a look at graphs and such, because, for them, 'its about the music, not the technique' - yeah, fuck them).

And now the big BUT: Ive created true 24/96 or 24/192 recordings myself (not from vinyl). When downsampled to 44,1 kHz and dithered to 16 bit, there is an actual difference. Yes, there is. But if you substract all marketing bla-bla and your flawed hearing (human hearing is flawed in general; not only yours, mine too) it is so small that it would be inaudible for 99% of all people and even for the 1% able to hear it, it would come down to personal preference.

All of my editions are derived from 24/96 masters. The versions I myself listen to all the time, when Im not using the CDs, are in 24/96 or 32/96. While Im working on them, they are in 32/192, I even have a special method of creating new frequencies (the common tongue would call them 'aliasing', correct would be 'imaging' however). My 'work-files' are in 192 kHz because then I can throw any DSP at them without introducing additional errors potentially hurting the sound. When Im finished, they are downsampled to 96 kHz so that they are compatible to most of the DACs I use. Besides, from that material I can easily downgrade further to much more convenient formats like 48 or 44,1.

I will easily admit, that the price per GB is so low now that it effectively isnt an issue anymore if you use HiRes or not. Hell, there is now a healthy number of portables out there which play those files natively. Even some smartphones can do it.

You know what? I will upload one of my recent Editions in its 'originally faked' HiRes, lets see what you make of it. Thinking of 'King Kong' right now...

I might have been unclear on this matter. I would certainly never claim there is an audible difference between 16/44.1 and 24/48 (or 88.2, 96, 176.5, 192, etc. for that matter). I am not someone who is fooling myself there is. Not even on my previous 15.000$+ audio system I used have. I am merely preparing myself for a--more than likely distant--possible future. There are already advancements in nanotechnology. And with current HDD prices there is little reason not to.

At any rate, I would definitely like one of those uploads from you to audition (I have two 32-bit 384 KHz DACs). But to be honest, I am not familiar enough with the King Kong soundtrack to actually make any judgement. The release I am most familiar with that you released is probably The Ring. Your version is actually one of the most listened to albums I have.

Great. Especially the end credits will be the track to focus on. I can compare the unofficial lossless complete score, your original Deluxe Edition, your upsampled one, and my Blu-ray DTS-HD MA 24/48 rip (with eac3to and the "DownStereo" command) with each other. Though I do not have TIL Music Group's official release [Cat. #: 0002-00041315]. This will be perfect for my new Fostex TH-900 with the Schiit Asgard 2 and North Star Design Impulso.

Indeed, your 16/44.1 Deluxe Edition is very distinguishable from the Blu-ray version.

But as a human it is just impossible not to compare and decide which version you like the most, regardless of whether the comparison is apples versus oranges. I even have several other renditions of the end titles in FLAC from other studios, including a piano arranged version. Still curious to hear how an "imaging" version of one of your releases sounds like.

Youre not serious? Even if that would be the winner, I would simply refuse to do it. The title of this thread reads "A Deluxe Edition" - meaning one. LOTR would be three Deluxe Editions. Kooke just reminded me that others have voted for all MIBs and TDKs. Those are of course not eligible. I didnt specify it, because, frankly, I thought that people wouldnt be this greedy.

Besides, remastering LOTR would be like taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Its definitely not in need of any 'remastering'. :)

First of all, a BIG 'Thank You!' to kooke for setting this up and organizing it. Nothing would have been achieved without him. Then, I also would like to thank all those who participated in this poll.

Now the problem: there isnt just one winning score, there are two. Therefore, it falls to me to decide what to do... and I will do the one I myself want to hear the most. Which is: Spider-Man 3 by Christopher Young. Which also means that someone has to provide me with all the music necessary to do it.

On many tracks its plainly audible, meaning, I wont be able to do something about it. Furthermore, several sources seem to have been used (some are surprisingly noisy). I dont know if I can whip this into shape. Right now, Im very doubtful. 'Last Samurai' would be a much easier job.

Not unexpected, I have heard complaints that the FYC sounded better than the OST, same with War Horse

The FYC actually hasnt been mastered, the OST on the other hand was mastered (quite well, I might add). The main difference between them is that the OST has more bass and less treble. The mix was - as much as I could tell - the same.

And it would be more honest to call my Edition 'Deluxe Light' because I managed to add only 6 additional minutes using both the OST and the FYC (if one includes the "End Credits", its 12 minutes). The OST runs 65 minutes, my edition 77 (and it sounds better of course).

EDIT: forget all I wrote. It wont be the second score to be posted. As a 2nd Deluxe Edition I should have chosen something from the list containing all votes... which I forgot. Hence, I will have to think about which one to do.

Thank you, Lockdown and rrprod21, for providing those files.

Ive listened a bit more to 'Spider-Man 3'. And I can already say this: if someone doesnt share truly lossless source files with me personally, this Deluxe Edition will not happen.

Before this poll even began, I forbade low-quality sources like these for exactly this reason. The quality of the session files is horrible, an abomination, I cannot salvage it.

Well I'll upload what I've got overnight. Hopefully, there's a decent album waiting to be made in there!

A change of plans:

Spider-Man 3 will take at least a month, maybe two. Reason: my partner and I will be renovating the appartement on short notice; we are receiving a new balcony/terrace along with new windows which will also involve moving wiring within the walls AND changing the telephone socket, meaning, I wont have internet for a while. Spider-Man 3 simply wont be finished in time.

For that reason I will prepone a score I originally planned as an unannounced surprise: The Last Samurai. I will be able to do that within a shorter amount of time since I already started two weeks ago and also because the sessions are of considerably higher quality.

Who knows, maybe the additional time will allow someone to change their mind to offer me the true, lossless sessions of Spidey 3 :)

That's excellent news. There's no problem in waiting for Spider-Man 3, and having first The Last Samurai will make a lot members happy. I bet you could ask some to lend a hand if you need to move furnitures. :)

I voted for Spider-Man 3, but I don't mind the wait. Any remaster from SonicAdventure is welcomed with open arms and gratitude from me. :)

I really love the score to Spider-Man 3, but it has always bothered me listening to the recording sessions as it has way too many tracks and runs way too long. I eagerly anticipate your deluxe edition to it, and I've never heard The Last Samurai, but I intend to if it's getting a deluxe edition as well.

Not sure when the next voting period begins, but I would personally absolutely love one for Giacchino's Super 8; at least a remaster of the original album. The mix is so dry I can barely listen to it in full. With a remaster it could easily become one of my favorites (sometimes I dream of what "Letting Go" would sound like with a wet mix).

SonicAdventure is busy these days remastering his home and it may take him some time to reply, but concerning a new voting period, I can say that the poll was a single experiment, never meant to be run periodically, so there won't be more voting. Of course, he will continue working on Deluxe Editions in his usual way, and maybe Super 8 could have its chance.

For now we still have the two winning titles waiting to be Deluxed (and in the case of Spider-Man 3, waiting also for better sessions). I'm also eager to listen to them.

Im sorry but Super 8 wont happen, I can promise you that. Its Varese and I hate sharing Varese stuff. Once the links disappear, I edit the original post - but people just ignore it and ask "Can I get the links?" when they arent available anymore. It really makes me scratch my head sometimes as to why people are so dumb.

'Remastering my home' - now that is good! :D

Its true, right now Im completely stressed out, I dont know where to start, what to do... I suck at organizing. Three rooms to 'remaster', one is halfway finished (two shelves still need to be tacked to the wall, new carpet not yet laid), two more to go. We have tons of DVDs, BluRays, CDs and books that need to be stored somewhere where they cant catch dirt or dust... and I seem to be too old to willingly accept a number of changes. Thank God, theres something easy as Ikea who has seen a lot of us these days!

Regarding Spidey 3: I think I can turn the sound into something good... I hope. Last Samurai will take a bit longer than expected too. Dynamics are a bitch.

I know you'll do great with Spider-Man 3, Sonic... fantastic score. Pity La-La-Land or some other company didn't get together and release the complete scores to the Spider-Man Trilogy like how they did Star Trek and Into Darkness.

I once made an attempt to give "SUPER 8" a bit more reverb, but never finished it.

It's really the only Giacchino score I have ever thoroughly enjoyed. I'm just not a fan of his overall sound at all.

Just a little update: Im able to surf the web again (the router lies on a pile of dirt on the living room floor) but it will be quite some time before Im able to get my main PC out of storage to work on any Deluxe Edition. Right now, Im sitting in front of an old laptop of mine... and that thing is barely able to play music, let alone work on editing or mastering.

And this is to those who plan on renovating their home: think twice before you do it. You wouldnt believe the dirt, the dust, the stress. Two days ago, I had my first nervous breakdown (the day they punched a huge hole into the wall to the garden so that a glass door will fit in). And the arguments about new furniture with my partner... who wants some slightly old-fashioned and awkward looking sofa while I want Kivik from Ikea.

Too much stress, basically living in the kitchen right now... which is a mess of course. Cooking there? Dont even think about it.

In short: it might take even longer for any Edition to be released here.

Furniture is meant to be used. Comfort and durability trump looks.....at least for me since I sleep on my sofa. I have a nice queen sized bed but have not slept on it in years.....

I'd think twice about Ikea. Their products are simply garbage. Most of the appliances and fixtures in our flat are from Ikea. Fairly new when we moved in (About 3 years ago.) and almost all have had to have been replaced. We're about to go on our third washing machine. Goofy landlord insists on buying crap from Ikea, because it's cheap. But there's a reason in cheap. It's crap. Save yourself the hassel and grief. Buy from somewhere else.

Goofy landlord insists on buying crap from Ikea, because it's cheap. But there's a reason in cheap. It's crap. Save yourself the hassel and grief. Buy from somewhere else.

There is cheap Ikea, there is expensive Ikea. I agree, that their cheapest products are crap. But Ive purchased their items for decades and Ive never been disappointed. Example: in 1994 I bought my first TV unit/bench. Its still going strong, looks gorgeous (not even one bit old-fashioned). To think that its innards are made from corrugated cardboard (like those light doors)... but I will replace it nonetheless for the simple reason that its too wide for its new intended purpose of being placed between two high shelfs. Another example: my Mum bought cupboards for the bathroom almost 30 years ago. They still look like new, they havent sagged one bit, the doors still fit and open perfectly.

Its too easy to say that expensive=good. Ive bought furniture that was horribly expensive only to find that it broke after a short while. Good and pricey materials indeed - but stupid engineering. I remember two beanbag chairs I bought from some exclusive high-end-y manufacturer (whatever drove me to even think about a luxury beanbag chair is beyond me)... their fabric was expensive and design stuff. The first broke after half a year of moderate usage. It was repaired for free. Half a year later: same problem, same place. The second one - which was used even less - broke after a year. I saved myself the hassle of repairing them and put both of them into the garbage.

Most of my Ikea stuff that Ive thrown or given away wasnt broken - it just didnt fit anymore in case I moved to another place or it had to go just because it was out of fashion.

But there are some things that arent THAT sturdy: their energy-saving lightbulbs. For that reason, Ive replaced most bulbs in our appartement with their LEDs (simply because their light is almost perfectly evenly distributed without spikes in the spectrum). I have yet to find out how long those will hold.

LED much better than CFL garbage... also not fade furniture and not mercury :D

agree also that engineer more important that price - good material/good engineer better than expensive or fancy material
