Back in the day I taught college film classes for 11 years. After acing the job interview, my boss gave me a list of suggested titles to show for the History of Cinema class. Lucas' space opera was on the list. I fought hard against showing it. My job (pleasure) was exposing students to films they might not have seen before, not pacifying them with more of the same. I won the battle. We showed Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress � the masterpiece lucas brazenly xeroxed for the first installment � and the class loved it.
As for Bill Shatner, his career high came in Roger Corman's Shame aka I Hate Your Guts. IMHO it's still one of the most powerful attacks on racism ever set to film, and Shatner has never been better. Maybe it's me, but white supremacists make much better villains than latex-faced Klingons.

Just love jazz (especially the old) - and I'rd never heard of Blossom Dearie - had to look her up on Wiki. Thanks for introducing her to me. Subtle and cool. Loved it.
And Jimmy Smith - another jazz classic.
In all, together with 'A LA HI-FI (1956) Michel Legrand' - an excellent collection. Can't thank you enough Scott.

As for your mini-critique on Lucas and Shatner - no fluff, sharp, short and educational. Personaly I'rd welcome more such background insightful comments. It adds that extra 'sparkle'.

The name sounds like it belongs to someone out of Mayberry, but Blossom Dearie is my favorite of all the "little voice" singers. I didn't discover her work until a few years ago and I've made up for lost time. I find her stuff intoxicating.
The Interns is a major guilty pleasure. There are Fritz Lang and Sam Fuller films I don't own, but I plunked down $19.95 for the BOD copy the week it came out. The fresh-faced cast playing nurses and orderlies are both lovely and lively and why wouldn't they be with Telly Savalas as the head of the hospital, baby? Bonus points: photographed by light-sculptor Russell Metty (Touch of Evil, Written on the Wind). Sure wish the sequel, The New Interns, would come out. There's a swingin' party sequence that I'm itching to revisit.

One of my all-time favorite rainy Sunday afternoon movies. Caught it probably a dozen times on TBS when cable was in its infancy. As delighted as I was to finally see it in widescreen, the DVD version is missing some of Jackson Beck's narration. ("And so ends the legend of Jonas Cord...") Oh, well. Another black hole waiting to be plastered.

I remember, way back, when my wife would receive 'a Christmas works box' (from the works bosses) - full of goodies. Not a hamper but full of novelties, fun items and little things to marvel at.

Here's a Christmas present for all of us. Up until an hour ago, I didn't know this even existed. It's my favorite Christmas tale � a copy of the short story is included � from one of America's great storytellers. There is a movie version, part of the feature, Trilogy, that's only available on VHS. The YoTube copy is barely adequate, so I can't tel lyou how delighted I am to have found this. There's a force and beauty to Capote's simple prose that will break your heart. Can't listen to it now. I'll wait and share it after Christmas dinner.

Just finished listening to TRUMAN CAPOTE READING HIS "A CHRISTMAS MEMORY", (couldn't wait - I'm like that.)
Beautiful - but very sad. Downloading 2 versions from Youtube now - to view later. One is a colourised version from long ago (the qualities not that bad) - the other a newer, 1966 I think, version (but in split sceen mode) - but the older version follows the story more as was written.
A truly magnificent share.

Thanks also for Nelson Riddle. Superb.
As for Bridget - the music itself isn't half bad, and Bridget can't sing for toffee, but as you listen to the music and singing on VLC player the album cover is constantly seen on screen, and then all is forgiven, and this is worth the download alone.

She had a lovely singing voice, but with the exception of Christmas Holiday, her movies are instantly forgettable at best. Legend has it they screened 100 Men and a Girl for a group of lab rats and their blood glucose levels plummeted so, they needed insulin to revive them. ;)

As for 'Bloomfield'. Myself, I've never really been interested in 'Football' or any UK sports films. Much prefer watching and 'tear welling up' when watching films like 'Cool Runnings' and 'Somebody Up There Likes Me' (I think that's the title - the one with Paul Newman in it.)

As may be guessed at, I am very keen on 'Jazz' - so much so that I have Jazz collections coming out of every hard drive orifice, and yet the weird thing is that from Creedmoor my horizons have broadened to include names and albums I never knew existed before, until he posted them here (Blossom Dearie, June Christy, Annie Ross - and the numerous broadway and musicals given the Jazz treatment by the established Jazz greats).
So I wholeheartedly second 'No matter how many years pass, there's always something new to hear or see or read.'
And the weird bit is, no matter what Creedmoor posts, I ain't got - till he posts it. We just never seem to trip up over each other in our posts - It never seems to be "Oh! he's posted it before I had a chance to do so, or vickie-verkie. What he contributes to this is always fresh and different, even (no, especially), to me.
