Alfred Newman is particularly difficult to treat as having separate roles of composer, conductor, adaptor & arranger
as he saw himself as primarily a conductor so all will be featured in this multi volume chronological set.

The Sound quality on some of this stuff is pretty poor but saying that some of it surprisingly good

The majority of these films just have the usual main and end titles you'd expect in the early 1930's
but there's some notable exceptions like Mr Robinson Crusoe, the Eddie Cantor Musicals,Al Jolson's Hallelujah I'm A Bum,
and Mary Pickford's last film Secrets.

After arriving in Hollywood from Broadway at the Behest of Irving Berlin to work on Reaching for the Moon, he was immediately lent out to Sam Goldwyn when the Berlin pic was way behind schedule. Goldwyn was impressed by his credentials and gave Newman the job of Musical Director on Eddie Cantor's Whoopee. His years on Broadway during the 1920's showed him a seasoned professional before ever standing in front of a Silver Screen. His collaboration with Chaplin and Arthur Johnston on City lights must have been as compositionally informative an experience for him as for them and his friendship and work on Gershwin's stage scores became the language of the Big City film score.

What a wonderful collection of such an essential movie composer. Thank you Anonymousremains. An unexpected find while I was actually looking for Mr . Newman's score for "The Rains Came". Does anyone know if that one has even been released in any shape, form or medium?
