It would make more sense if you linked to the FYC promos (of what is available), since that's is the music that's nominated. Not the OST material

afaik only the fyc for interstellar different and lockdown's share of the illuminated star projectiom album brings us pretty close to the fyc version and it's lossless. so why bother ;)

I have every single one except Mr. Turner....

Which is apparently a Varaese release, so nobody wants to upload it here.

Like, even if you just have it in any capacity, I've love a PMd link....

1. just because mr. turner is a varese release, doesn't mean nobody wants to share it. you can do it, but only in pm
2. don't request in this thread. we have a dedicated section for this in the forum.

If not Interstellar, then Grand Budapest Hotel must win.

I just love the end credit suite to that one. So jaunty and lively.
Great film.

Interstellar will not win. Theory of Everything won the Globe, which usually leads to the Oscar. I've given up hope Zimmer will ever win an Academy Award again. 1 and done.

A friend of mine thinks the opposite, that it has a shot at winning cause it calls back to 2001, how some of the scenes are similar with the visuals of outer space and classical-sounding music playing in the background. It's an interesting theory, but I just don't see it happening.

If it wins, I'll shave my eyebrows

I will say that this score of his is definitely a fresh scope on Zimmer.

Just the organ alone and his minimalistic approach.
It appeals to the touchy-feely hipsters who voted for Theory of A Beautiful Mind.

It's not Inception but has the expirmentation we hear from it.
Instead of stretching samples of Edith Piaf's hit song, we hear the organ played out in great measure.

Do you remember that video about the first time he was approached to compose and we see the cathedral that houses the organ?
The resonance of its very breath.
The throaty tones of its hidden emotions.
Life in every breath.
Every note, every cord, every key.
They are all... perfect.

No one's going to vote for Zimmer this year. Not with all this 16kHz business going on.

UNLESS, there's a hidden subliminal message inside that tone that programs every voter to vote for him. :smrt:

i just finished listening to mr. turner and i honestly can't say why this score was nominated. as a stand alone score it's really noting special. when the movie hits home video, i'll check it out. but i doubt i will rate it any higher then i do now... 5/10

how to your dragon 2 should've been nominated instead. it's the far better score, which i also really enjoyed.

Well, it's not an Oscar-worthy score, but when I listened to the "End Credits" cue, I had to admit that it deserved at least a nomination. It's not like the "The Theory Of Everything" that stands alone, but Mr. Yershon created a score that fits the film perfectly. And this is enough!

HANS!!! 2nd Oscar! :-)

Since I consider Zimmer to be a composer imitation, I think he should get an Oscar imitation this year. ;)

Nope, sorry, still not into Hans and his Media Venture "creativity process".

I think Desplat takes it for Imitation Game. He's been nominated 6 times before. This year he got nominated twice, bringing it up to 8. He clearly has the most admiration. And since I doubt Imitation Game is going to take home any of the bigger awards, it should get something. Great main theme, simple and beautiful.

I prefer the risks and majestic heights reached by Interstellar, but I wouldn't risk my eyebrows, or even the loose change in my pocket on that bet.

I've listened to all of them and I've also seen 4 out of the 5 (haven't seen Mr. Turner yet) and all I can say is Grand Budapest Hotel better win this shit. Such a lively, creative and fun score. The Desplat/Anderson collaboration is one of the best in recent memory.

Grand Budapest Hotel > Theory of... > Imitation Game > Interstellar > Mr. Turner imho

Grand Budapest is my favorite of the scores too
even Imitation Game seems a bit too standard for my tastes

but Interstellar winning is fine too

Either it'll be Interstellar or Imitation Game. Grand Budapest also had a great OST, but I'm rooting for Imitation Game this year. I got goosebumps when I watched the movie today at the cinema. Such a moving soundtrack.

Personal Rankings:

1. The Imitation Game
2. Interstellar
3. The Grand Budapest Hotel
4. The Theory of Everything
5. Mr. Turner

I think all of them deserved the nominations though. I actually liked how mysterious and restrained Mr. Turner's score was...

I am, however, a tad frustrated that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' score for Gone Girl was snubbed...

Interstellar will not win. The Lossy-sourced FYC discs and the damaged 8m31 Quantifiable Connection sealed its fate. They were the nail in the coffin.

I am, however, a tad frustrated that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' score for Gone Girl was snubbed...

Like The Social Network and Dragon Tattoo, those "scores" are just ambient, droning noises that are made by pushing a button in some computer program. I'm glad it wasn't nominated.
