The PIXAR Scores Discussion Thread

So, over the years, we've managed to collect a fair amount of Pixar rarities.
This thread is to discuss anything and everything to do with the music to Pixar's movies.
Any new info regarding missing C&Cs or FYCs, and any info regarding future films/composers, etc. is most welcome.

Not including the OSTs, here's what we have so far (to my best knowledge):

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Toy Story (1995) - The upcoming complete Legacy Collection edition.
a bug's life (1998) - FYC, C&C (same material on both), Isolated score rip
Toy Story 2 (1999) - C&C, FYC (which has not been shared here yet)
Monsters, Inc. (2001) - FYC (99% complete), no known C&C
Finding Nemo (2003) - FYC, C&C
The Incredibles (2004) - FYC, C&C
Cars (2006) - FYC, RS (which have not been shared here yet)
Ratatouille (2007) - C&C, RS
WALL-E (2008) - FYC, RS (90% complete). Andrew Stanton confirmed there was a C&C, but no one's ever seen it.
Up (2009) - FYC, C&C
Toy Story 3 (2010) - C&C, Complete Score (Master Disc, with slates)
Cars 2 (2011) - C&C
Brave (2012) - FYC, C&C (same material on both)
Monsters University (2013) - FYC (95% complete), Unofficial Complete Score Edit
Inside Out (2015) - FYC (same material as OST)
The Good Dinosaur (2015) - FYC (same material as OST)
Finding Dory (2016) - Nothing yet...

If anything above is missing or incorrect, let me know.
I will update this list accordingly as more material turns up.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does anybody have any idea why C&Cs for Monsters, Inc. and Cars have never turned up?

Why has nobody ever seen the supposed WALL-E C&C?

And what about a Monsters University C&C?

Good question - I'm assuming we'll get something, seeing as we got an OST for "Toy Story of Terror" by Giacchino.

And yes you are quite right with regards to the legacy seeing as the fim id about 70mins we could have a complete. What are we looking at about 2 disc i would say?

Well the film is 77 minutes, and the score isn't played through all of those 77 minutes. The OST is about 54 minutes, so I'm sure we're not missing much. I'm pretty sure we can get the complete score on 1 disc.

James (The Disney Guy)

My thoughts aswell. So disc 2? Demos, instrumental/song variations maybe?

hack3rman
12-29-2014, 10:44 PM
Well I know there are demos, both for songs used in the film and unused songs. So there's those. I don't think they will do this, but they could go "The Lost Chords" route and have Newman do some studio recordings of the unused song demos like what they did with Sleeping Beauty. After that though, idk what else they could put on disc 2. Maybe some score alternates or album versions of certain cues. I highly doubt they will add instrumentals.

Yeah, that would be awesome. Giacchino has scored several, but a lot of the early ones are very vague... watched Geri's Game last night before Toy Story 2 (you should know why...) and it's just one long piece of French accordion music. :P

You're right, maybe not the earlier ones. One I really like is One Man Band, but it probably wouldn't be as good on album.

Musically, One Man Band is my favourite Pixar short. And I love how they use the Sarasate in the end credits. I started learning it, but I'm too busy with Grade 8 preparation at the moment.

I did a DVD Rip of OMB, in 5.1, but as with all the short films I've ripped, the channels are much less defined than in the feature films.

Oh I see! Haha lol, I guess we can really know for sure then.

I'd kind of guessed already from the one 'inconsistency' (for want of a better word) that I'd noticed: he's used the track "Scare Pig" from the OST right before "Mike Rides the Scare Pig" from the FYC without chopping off the last 1:27 of "Scare Pig", so there's 1:27 of repeated material. Apart from that, it's very good and I'm happy with it till a legit complete or the sessions turn up one day (hopefully soon!).

Good question. Both my movies are fantastic. Although I got paid more to do the last one. ;)

I have to say, like you, I prefer the original by quite a lot. However, that being said, MU does have its moments, particularly in the second half of the film. The ending is spectacular. I was really hyped for the Scare Games final, and really loved the 'cabin in the woods' climax. That was superb. And I also loved hearing all the musical references to Monsters, Inc. But just seeing Crystal and Goodman (I mean, myself) reprising their roles was treat enough.

I almost hope they do a sequel to MI next...

Or they could make a movie out of the montage at the end of MU...

Or they could make a movie between the two films, starting from the moment MU ended with Mike and Sulley starting their first day as a scare team. That would be awesome. We'd get to see them individually continue to grow up, and as a team rise to the top of the scare charts, and we'd also see Randall arriving at MI for the first time. And we might even get to see Waternoose before he lost all his hair!!

Well yeah because the soundtrack was ready for release before the a special aired. I have a feeling maybe they didnt have the time to put a soundtrack release together before the Toy Story That Time Forgot. And seeing as the Christmas special has a lot better ratings than Toy Story of Terror!, it seems stupid that Disney wouldn't release a soundtrack.

1m1 Main Title and 1m5 Wanna Walk are from Mike's New Car... how odd!

Now I feel Special! :)

Had no clue about the two Mikes New Car sheets being in there. :P

I'll try and get the rest of my Pixar Sheets and Cue Lists up later when I get off work (which isn't til 5)

As far as Pixar related sheets go, I have all 3 Toy Story films, Monsters, Inc. (Obviously...), Finding Nemo and Cars.... I MAY have more but that's all I can remember off hand...

James P.Sullivan
06-12-2015, 01:52 PM
There's also 10m1 You've Got A Friend In Me and 10m2 Family from Toy Story 2 tucked in there at the very end after 5m13 Surprise...

That would be fantastic! I already have Cars, Toy Story 3, and some cues from Finding Nemo.

Many, many thanks, Hack3rman! Already had TS3 from when you uploaded the master cd. Great to have the other two. :)

I love following along to the score and reading the violin parts. The beginning of 5m13 Daylight looks like great fun! I SO badly wish I could join a studio orchestra. But the competition is so hard, and you have to be super good. I mean SUPER good.

Just added a poll to the thread! Go vote!!

It's a multiple choice, so don't panic. Also, seeing as the maximum number of choices is 10, I've grouped franchises together, and they all just fit. If you choose a franchise, feel free to leave a comment specifying which of the franchise is your favourite. Remember, we're talking music here, not necessarily the films themselves.

James (The Disney Guy)
06-16-2015, 01:28 PM
Well my vote is done lol.
Toy story as its the original and the first pixar film i saw aswell as soundtrack i got.
Ratatouille as i love the score as it sounds traditional french cafe and i love that

James P.Sullivan
06-16-2015, 01:56 PM
I voted Toy Story (all of them, but particularly TS3), Monsters (both, but particularly Inc.), Cars (both, but particularly the first), and WALL-E.

Obviously, I love all the rest too (particularly Ratatouille), but I figured choosing all of them would kinda defeat the object of the poll. :p

Woahkay, I need to actually listen to these scores before making any votes... though I already really enjoy Finding Nemo and Ratatouille.

From Ratatouille, for example, one of my favorites is especially "Colette Shows Him Le Ropes".
And, Giacchino put in a theme from Medal of Honor: Underground somewhere in this track. See if you can find where it is. ;)

I also really love Giacchino's Ratatouille - one of my favourites is "Wall Rat". So sparkly and sprightly and beautiful. Listening to it now. You guys got me all Ratatouille-ed up. :p

Apparently there's gonna be a Ratatouille live in concert tour event with the entire score performed live to the movie... can't wait for that. :)
