Since I've never posted these on this site, I might as well do it now. They are definitive complete soundtracks for each of the first 3 games. The difficulty in making these soundtracks is that the games use dynamic position-based music mixing, so I had to rip each sub-channel of each major track and remix them myself to reflect how they come up during game-play. Some of the major tracks have as many as six different sub-channels, so it was a very time-consuming project for each game. Silent Hill 2 took over 100 hours of work to complete just by itself. For details on these complete soundtracks, the link to part 2 will answer any questions you might have on the advantages to this set.

Just out of curiosity, where is "Theme of Laura" (Long Version)? I see that the standard soundtrack version is there, but not with the extended acoustic guitar outro. :( If this is a complete game rip, shouldn't it be included as well? No offense or anything... honestly I would just love to have it in this glorious quality!

Because it was impossible to rip without the overlying voice track. My policy is only tracks that can be cleanly extracted make the list.

No sweat. Actually doing more research on the subject, I found that what you were asking for does not exist in the game. It was an unreleased track that only appeared on the E3 extended trailer for the game. Nevertheless, I did find a high quality rip of another unreleased short version with a mellow guitar outro that was used on yet another trailer (and also does not appear in game). I'll see what I can do to make an edit of these tracks and ill post them here if you're still wanting them.

Edit: Found a high quality source for the E3 trailer, now working on a FLAC edit as best as it can be done.

That's where I originally uploaded them when my own ISP complained about the traffic on my site.
Anyway, my CST packages are meant to be definitive, meaning you don't need any other fan rips (not to mention mine are the only ones in FLAC). I keep a CST folder and an OST folder for each game. That's all you need to have everything.

That would be track 3.02 - Cybil Returns. Keep in mind the OST does a lot of remixing and alterations, while the CST are how the tracks sound in-game. That's why I keep folders for both CST and OST.

These technically don't have 'everything' in the sense that there were tracks with voices that could not be recovered, but anything that could be isolated is definitely there. I only wish I had access to Akira Yamaoka's original files so a truly complete soundtrack could be made.

Just a quick question... If I put this track into Audacity and render it as a WAV, will I be losing any quality? My reason being, was that I was gonna make the last 2 minutes of this song into a separate track, as I've never had it in this good of quality before.

@FirebrandX: Do you plan on making a CST on Silent Hill 4 or any other games from the series?

CST for part 4 was in the works, but I have been sidetracked doing CSTs for the Tomb Raider series. I also have been doing some soundtrack restoration work for an unreleased Japanese-only Zelda title called BS Legend of Zelda. The work is much harder there as I have to use video tape sources with live gameplay and reconstruct the unreleased tracks second-by-second. Anyway, I do plan on getting back to SH 4 eventually this summer, but I'm probably not going to go past part 4.

I find SH1 to be a bit too dated nowadays, but it's still a fantastic game. SH2 and SH3 are definitely the cream of the crop, I don't think anyone will argue with you over that. However, I think that SH4: The Room is definitely of that same standard of quality and Homecoming is also quite a worthy title (bearing the the Silent Hill name).

The rest of the games aren't too great. Origins is a bit bland, Shattered Memories is too empty (and the action bits are not fun at all) and I just couln't get into Downpour....it didn't feel like a Silent Hill game to me.

For me it felt the only good Silent Hill games are part 1 to 3. It felt like a complete trilogy with the story coming to a full circle with Heather's journey( the 3rd game is also my favorite) The Room plays like a great side story but the difficulty, annoying escort missions( not one of Silent Hill franchise's best strength) and repeated levels during the second half weakens the game quite a bit. Homecoming kind of breaks the SH lore and just lack subtleties when it comes to its violence and creatures( see vid below) Pyramid Head have no reason to be in Homecoming since it's part of James Sunderland's manifestation in Silent Hill 2. After Homecoming, it just kept going downhill. Downpour's story is incredibly weak and boring. The combat is terrible and controls+U.I is a mess. Most of the issues stem from Tomm Hulett( the guy who think he knows Silent Hill but actually got it all wrong) His mishandling of the abysmal HD Collection (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wya4XhTPMcc) is unforgivable. Hopefully Hideo Kojima can resurrect the franchise since he wants to make it with the new Fox Engine.

You should watch Twin Perfect's excellent Silent Hill Experience vids. It perfectly explains the story and lore in full detail, issues with latter games and even got praised by members of "Team Silent", makers of the first 3 games:

Just watched the Twin Perfect Silent Hill HD Collection Review Part 1 link you posted and it's absolutely maddening all the things they've changed in the HD collection. I bought it a while ago not knowing about all these things and I can tell you I well never, ever touch it! It really is an abamination and done without any respect to the original material!

And then to know that it can be done right...since Blue Point made perfect HD collections from the Metal Gear games (and other PS2 games). They were able to reengineer the retail versions of those games (the code from the PS2/PC discs). Why the f*** didn't Hijinx Studios do it like that! :(

Square also did a fine job with Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy X.
(although they should've had the option to switch to the original music IMO)

I can't overstate this, so thanks! Also about the TGS 2000 trailer mix, there's a video recording of a reel recording on YouTube of the XBox SH2 trailer that had the full guitar adlib with no speech but with frequent distortion. The source is purported to be GameSpot, but crimson-ceremony.com states that Lost Releases - Xbox Game Title Collection TGS2001 Autumn Version (http://www.crimson-ceremony.net/lostreleases/item.php?id=shdemo_dvd-jpn-tgs2001autumn) contains a short trailer for Saigo No Uta. Difficult to say for Silent Hill 2 since I had to transfer them via the optical output on the PS2. However, the PC version sounded generally inferior due to a codec called ADX and a low bitrate. I'd estimate the PS2 tracks were fairly close to CD quality.

Later for Silent Hill 3, the bitrate was substantially increased to 48Khz, making direct rips easier to process.

Well, I was really interested in Silent Hill 1, since that game did not have audio streams, but rather something close to MIDI. 2 and 3 I could rip myself later, since those are streams. But 1 is a mystery.

I love these rips to death so I hate to point this out, but are the SH1 and SH3 rips really complete with all the recoverable music? On SH1 the UFO Ending song as well as the alternate bloopers video music seems to be missing, and on SH3 "Silent Hill no Uta" ("Silent Hill Song", the UFO Ending credits theme) is missing (as well as "I Want Love (Sudio Mix)" from the OST, it was a bonus track that didn't appear in-game, but since you included the unreleased tracks from the SH Sounds Box...).

If I recall correctly (because it's been a while since I had worked on these projects), SH1 used something similar to MIDI, so I had no way of extracting the music as readable tracks. So I had to rip each track manually live. I do remember using the trick of opening the disc tray in order to stop the audio tracks from disturbing the background music.

Likely I just missed those tracks when I tried to cover all the bases I could find from other track lists. I have no problem updating the list from verified track sources. I think last year I even added a new track from the Maria quest, though not entirely complete due to dialog parts I could not include.

Opening the disk tray to stop the voices from activating?

Yes, certain tracks are only played during dialog sequences. For example: When you first meet Cybil, the only way to get that track undisturbed is to open the disk tray so that the machine cannot stream the dialog overlay. The background music track will play indefinitely until you close the disk tray and allow the machine to stream the dialog. But this trick is only for SH1 of course.

Silent Hill no Uta (SH3 UFO Ending credits theme): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYdHXSwG1Qw (starts at 1:20)

Maybe not the most stand-out tracks in the games, but if you want complete ultimate edition soundtracks.... Just sayin'.

Okay thanks for that. I will work on ripping them myself and include them in the original packages. I will say that SH3 track is terrible. I doubt many people will want to keep it on their favorites list. :-P

It has a nasty habit of growing on you, so watch out! :D

By the way... I see earlier in this thread that you were working on a Silent Hill 4 CST. Do you still plan on finishing it, or have you abandoned the project? Personally, I'd love to see something like that. SH4 was inferior to the first three games both as a game and as a soundtrack, but in itself it's quite good, and it would be awesome to have full lossless rips of all 4 original SH games made in Japan by Team Silent.

Hello FirebrandX.

Are there any news about SH4?

I thought this game only had yells and sounds of sweat and tears dropping into the floor for BG music.

Oh wait, that was from my side of the TV. No wonder.

Thanks a lot! I'm NOT passing this one up. :)

Why was the track "My Heaven" in SH1 renamed to "Incubus"? Because personally, I think the name My Heaven is much cooler, and also the original composer's intent.

Is there a soundtrack for this series with all the vocal tracks?

Hey, I've got this weird audio bug with at least your Silent Hill 1 files. Whenever I try to jump around the track in either Windows Media Player or VLC Media Player, the song, instead of going right to the point I clicked on, seems to jump a half-second or full second back or forth. It's mainly a second forward. Re-downloading and extracting a new copy of the files from a new .zip file doesn't solve this, it wasn't a bungled download. But the worse part is that if I add album art to the Metadata via Mp3tag, this problem gets much worse; trying to skip to a certain point in the track results in as much it jumping back 20 seconds. Or jump forward. And this is permanent damage, removing the album art afterwards does nothing to it.

Opening the files in Audacity doesn't have this issue, however. And exporting the audio removes this bug entirely, even the original half-second jump. However, adding the album art to the fixed file brings it back. And just to be clear, I'm using the file "Silent Hill Complete Soundtrack Ultimate Edition.jpg" included in the main folder as the album art. Interestingly, if I shrink the image down by 50%, it lessens the damage and only results in the 8 or 10 seconds jumps ahead or forward instead of the extremes with the full size image.

The main question I have is, is anyone experiencing this issue? Is it just me? If you can't detect it, it's just a small jump your progress bar does when you skip around in the song. And does anyone have solutions for adding the album art to these files without making the album art look like crap, like what Windows Media Player does? Then again, WMP would probably cause this problem too.

I mean, as it stands, with the vanilla files a half-second jump isn't a big deal, I can deal with no album art, and not everyone skips around a song a whole lot, and I can always use Audacity to get rid of it in all 72 audio files. But I'd like to have album art if possible, and it seems like a weird problem to have at all, and if it's possible for it to not be there at all, I wouldn't mind in the slightest.

It sounds like an issue with memory allocation in whatever music player software you are using. My files are FLAC at maximum encoding, so you might want to try exporting wav files of the songs in audacity, and then re-encoding the wav files themselves into something much smaller in file size like mp3.

Hey there, FirebrandX. I don't wanna sound pushy, but how's the progress on SH 4 sounds?
Being played the game I wondered how are you gonna put everything together as mostly tracks are sfx, noise and such. : )

Web page links are updated with new ones as Filetrip has shut down for good. Sorry for those that got dead links. Also I included the missing UFO track for Silent Hill in the new zip links.

Thank you so much friend, I hope you're going to the same amazing treatment to the fourth game as well!
Furthermore, you might want to update the covers to match the latest additional songs.
Kudos again!
