Takemitsu was a unique composer who combined the avant-garde western music (heavy French influence, namely Messiaen) and elegant aesthetics of Japanese music. It just so happens that flower and nature form the basis of inspiration for both nations' music. He inherited the impressionistic ideal from French music and the indirectness/suggestiveness of Japanese culture. His music rarely tends to be busy with bustling notes but is full of nuance and delicateness. As a guy who has always been fascinated by Japanese culture and history, Takemitsu naturally has an irresistible pull for me.

Cutting my praises short to save you from the wall of text I would be writing - it's gonna be a fun weekend listening through the movie music sets today and tomorrow! Thanks a lot, friend. :)

These collections look quite enticing, as far as Takemitsu scores go, I'm only familiar with the clips they take out of Jose Torres and Face of Another, probably some of the catchiest stuff you'll find in here. But Ran was a ridiculous masterpiece, so I'm looking forward to everything else his cinematic oeuvre, whether it be hauntingly beautiful or hilariously blunt. Also, your link to volume 1 is not working, Thread 164335 will have to do for now, as otherwise you folks are gonna miss out on Face of Another and Jose Torres, and that would be quite a shame.

His scores for all of Teshigahara's other films are excellent, too! I especially love his scores for The Princess Goh and The Man Without a Map. Virtually every score he composed is excellent, though, picking just a few highlights is very difficult :) And I'll fix that link, thanks for pointing that out!
