This is an UNRELEASED recording of the score which was reconstructed after the discovery of the film's original cut in the archives of the Museo del Cine in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2008. This was recorded on 16. Sept. 2011 by Staatsorchester Kassel at Opernhaus Kassel, Germany.

Metropolis' film score was composed for large orchestra by Gottfried Huppertz. Huppertz drew inspiration from Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss, and combined a classical orchestral voice with mild modernist touches to portray the film's massive industrial city of workers. Nestled within the original score were quotations of Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle's "La Marseillaise" and the traditional "Dies Irae," the latter of which was matched to the film's apocalyptic imagery. Huppertz's music played a prominent role during the film's production; oftentimes, the composer played piano on Fritz Lang's set in order to inform the actors' performances.

++Don't ask for MP3. I only ever share lossless (and so should anyone who cares about preserving music, especially rarer recordings). In my humble opinion all shares should be lossless. You can always easily convert to MP3 for personal use afterwards++

Is this a live recording? I attended one of the two "premieres" (in Frankfurt, with Imig and the Braunschweig Philharmonic, the other one took place, similtaneously in Berlin, with Frank Strobel).
