This is the premiere recording of one of the greatest, truly majestic and original silent film
scores. Its composer, Gottfried Huppertz, was a rather mysterious figure who worked as a
bit-part actor and was trained as a singer. He wrote Metropolis, the equally impressive
The Nibelungs, but then very few film scores in the years before his death at 49.

This is a specially prepared 77-minute concert version of the score that includes all the highlights
and avoids the repetitions of the complete score.

Enjoy!

Cool - this is a classic film - It is the inspiration for so much of what we take for granted as modern sci-fi - its importance can not be overstated.

While this is the first time available on CD, there is a full rip of the score available in both MP3 and Lossless posted around here taken from the Blu-Ray audio.

A timeless classic !!! a masterpiece of cinema, set design... and strangely it's message is quite relevant to the current OWS movement. Many Thanks !!!

So this is from a CD version of the Blu Ray version's score? Or is it the actual LIVE premiere recording version that is a different recording of the same music than what is on the Blu Ray? Where can you get the CD? Thanks! :)

According to the liner notes, the last recording date for this selection was on September 29, 2010 at the Berlin Haus des Rundfunks. All the sessions postdate the live premiere on February 12, 2010 - which seems to suggest that this is a studio-only recording. I have not seen the BluRay rip around here (but I was present at the actual live premiere in 2010), so I can't comment on the differences.

Can it be compared to the 124' of glory sound of the BRrip version?
I haven't listen to this version but I can't understand how have they edited this music into a 77' version. One of the best scores EVER treated like this...

Without the pictures the score is very repetitive in the complete version. Trimming a film score always helps.

But where did you find the BR rip?

This is indeed a studio recording. It was made to accompany the new Bluray.

And quite right; this album presentation makes for a far more coherent listening experience. It works wonderfully in the film but as you would expect with a score that is essentially two hours of wall-to-wall music, there is filler and repetition galore.

To perfectly replicate the film experience, watch the film. For an exceptionally powerful symphonic work to be enjoyed upon its own merits, listen to this CD. :)

I've noticed that there's a noticeable gap on this CD. Between the "Cathedral Theme" and the "Maria Imprisonment Themes" there should be at least 5 minutes of music, corresponding to the visit of Freder and the Thin Man to Josaphat appartment. I don't understand why this segment wasn't include in this version, even after this was the longest fragment of "new footage" added to the 2010 restoration. I've a recorded version of this score with is complete in that sense, but i believe it's the rip of the Blue Ray soundtrack, as it was mentioned before.

Remember that this album was never meant to be an edition of the complete score, but rather a "concert presentation" of the music in the aim of providing a better listening experience, that could very well be played in any concert hall.

In fact the album with 77 minutes of duration is almost near the limit of a CD format, and includes all the themes and most important leitmotifs composed by Huppertz for the movie. Obviously for an almost two and half hours of non-stop music, you will find repetitions of recurring themes along the way, thus why some portions of music were left out of the CD to avoid redundancy.

It's good that there's a complete score is out there, but the concert presentation makes for a much better listening experience.

I have re-upped the album and replaced the dead link above.
