PDF Digital Booklets and Hi-Res Liner Notes Scans

For those who like to collect Digital Booklets to accompany your music I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread where we can all share the PDF booklets we have. It can be annoying when some soundtracks contain booklets and some do not. If we all contribute, hopefully we can get a good library going. Good quality scans are also welcome.

Please type out the name for all booklets so they can be easily found with a search.

Fair enough, I am a PC user and use Adobe Acrobat Pro for creating all of my PDF documents. Though I primarily use it to make ebooks I do have several custom digital booklets that I am making for my Buffy the Vampire Slayer complete soundtracks.

The Last time I touched a MAC was way the hell back in 1984!

I'm sorry you haven't had a chance to experience a real computer. ;) The only REAL benefit to a PC is it's gaming capabilities. Mac is more for us creative folk. (Just a poke and not intended to upset) I got fed up with viruses and crashing operating systems. There was only ONE program that prevented me from moving earlier. Quicken.

They include bugfixes and include newer, optimal and better algorithms and delete old, useless algorithms!

Beta release: 7-Zip 9.22 (it's okay to use this one)
Alpha release: (NOT FOR ARCHIVING! Alpha's are merely for testing and reporting problems and progress to make a Stable release)

TO give you an idea what I'm talking about. I used to routinely post audiobooks on a different site with names like I Love My Dog.rar and HeWeGoAgain.7z with decryption passwords on rapidshare. I stopped only because I've gone back to work. I NEVER was flagged, banned, or received a lockout in the 2 + years I was doing it.

:this: It's a practice that should be followed.
With "scene" and "group" releases (games, movies, tv series, software) it's kind of a huge deal for most.
They have so much upkeep it's a daunting task to do that to everything and upload on time for the impatient followers.
The largest thing is that there is "mad respect" for people who keep their packages the same as the original release when it was first leaked.
I've seen forums tear people to shreds if they archived it "funny" because the original sharer (group/scene) didn't do that.

Another thing:

1) Split-Archive in RAR with password
2) then split-archive in 7z

Sites that check your files (look inside the archives because agreed to their Terms of Service; read the fine print, always) only check one level deep.
They won't try to open the secondary archives, especially if they're if they're password protected. They can't deny your service either because it's password protected.
But if you post your links on public sites without using an anonymous referral service like anynm.to then the file sharing site can trace back to this forum and people (not machines) will evaluate your downloads as pirated content.

The purpose of "anonymizing" your links is to remove the little referral tag.
It tells the destination site where you came from when you clicked on the active link. That is, Shrine: Home of the Pirate Lords.

Ways to "remove the messenger" (if you please) is to use the code boxes

But this forum, people don't need to sign-in/create an account to download your content.
They can read your posts without being a member, download and use the password you publicly posted.
That is, so can RIAA and others can too.

But if you use a site service to attach to your links, then people who are not signed-in/no-account cannot see the links.
They'll get a message saying the link is not visible until they create an account.
Which is easy here. But at least it cuts down the chances a little.

Here's one such site service:

Now people not signed-in can see that.
But if I just post the password, they'll know that at least.
But you can also throw in a dummy site just to hyperlink the password so anonymous people can't even see that and have no idea what the hell you're talking about.

I have certain booklets in multi-page TIF format -- the TIF is OCR'd (searchable and PDF'able). These are all personal scans at 300dpi or higher.
I do not have resources to create MODERN PDFs, or the time to convert them to JPG. If there is enough interest in native TIF, I can upload + post them.

This last one has duplicated most of it because I needed to export the pdf pages to .png for faster access at some point, and decided to keep them after that. No problem in deleting them.

Using Linux, most probably I used the command-line program "convert", from ImageMagick (http://www.imagemagick.org) or its fork (when some developers decide to work on an alternate version) GraphicsMagick (http://www.graphicsmagick.org). They have versions for Windows, and the command would be something like this:


convert myfile.pdf myimage.jpg
# or, if you need more quality, setting the pixel density
convert -density 300 myfile.pdf myimage.jpg
# this one, converting to png and resizing
convert -density 400 -resize 70% myfile.pdf myimage.png

If the .pdf has more than one page, "convert" outputs separate images, appending a number to the filename. You can also specify a certain range of pages, etc. Those "Magick" programs are very useful for batch processing, and possibly the Windows versions have convenient GUIs. You may give them a try.

I know that someone�s already chimed in with links for these, but I�d like to beat a dead horse and reiterate that a lot of this artwork is already on the Cover Art Archive (https://coverartarchive.org/). Look at the entries for these three releases, for an example of what�s available:

So maybe check there first. The archive is relatively new, so it doesn�t have everything yet, but it�s got a lot. And if you�ve got good scans and if you see that they�re not up yet, maybe upload your artwork for make benefit the community. It used to take forever to upload everything, one image at a time � hell, I almost pulled all my hair out when I was uploading everything for the Elfman / Burton collection (http://musicbrainz.org/release/607cc05a-e462-4f39-91b5-e9322544e0a6/cover-art) � but with Firefox and Chrome, it�s now possible to upload artwork in batches, so the whole process is all pretty simple any more.

So please please please have a look at the Cover Art Archive. Or MusicBrainz, even. There�s a lot of stuff that I find on here that hasn�t been entered yet, and it�s a little annoying to have to enter everything myself. But if we all did our little part, this whole thing would all be a lot easier. We�d all have perfectly tagged files, with automatically retrieved perfect artwork, and everything is only going to improve over time, as edits are entered and improvements are made to the database.

Having said all that, we can either share our artwork here, with digital lockers that are sure to fall, or we can share it with the Cover Art Archive. I know where I�m going with the stuff that I find. It�s the one that�s backed by Archive.org, where everything will presumably last forever. It�s the one where everything is very nicely organized, and where everything is accessible with a nice API. And nope, nothing is throttled there, and I never have to enter in any stupid captchas. Maybe give it a go over there, eh? You�ll be glad that you did.


[update 1]: Apparently, all of the artwork for the Lord of the Rings albums isn�t available in the Cover Art Archive. What�s there already is only a small subset of what�s available in the links provided above. Unless someone else beats me to it, I�ll add this other artwork a little later.

[update 2]: I tried to break the batch image uploader, but it seems to have held up. For The Two Towers, there was almost 120 MBs of images, and I uploaded everything all at once. It worked a treat.

But anyway, it should all be there now.

That looks like a good thing to do. When I found that, it was surprising to me that archive.org hosted this kind of material, as the other collections they have are either public domain or donations; I also thought they would host just thumbnails, in the spirit of "fair use", but if they allow high resolution images, that's probably the best place for our covers, and would be accesible by much more people.

Well I agree with you completely but to be honest I had NO clue that such archive existed.

And well as you mentioned I think they don't allow the upload of other scans (but I might be wrong).


By the way, the scans I am asking will be used to upload a massive star wars collection of the movies with scans included. I will keep it on Mega and it will be pretty much never dying.

Ok you know I tried to look what I was asking for and I only found. Besides I think the website is not so clear on how do a research SPECIFICALLY in the cover art archive. Somethign should be done about that. Anyway thanks for the Info I just wished it was a bit clearer

Also, from this point on I will give these designations to my uploads for clarification...

Scans = SC - Title
Custom Art = CA - Title
Digital Booklet = DB - Title
Custom Digital Booklet = CDB - Title

Number of Photos/Pages = #P

example:
SC - 10 things I Hate About You (OST) - 4P
CA - 10 things I Hate About You (Complete Score) - 6P
DB - 10 things I Hate About You (OST) - 4P
CDB - 10 things I Hate About You (Complete Score) - 6P

Well custom digital booklets aren't as common as i made it seem...I am making some for my own custom soundtracks of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (7), Angel (5) and Supernatural (8+) [by season]. I also make my own custom covers. ;)
