Every new incarnation needs it's own theme, just as Batman Begins didn't have Elfman's themes and so on. There's a reason it's being rebooted. They're not gonna make an entirely updated Superman franchise using Williams' or Ottman's themes.

And soon Zimmer fans will badmouth Williams just the same as they badmouthed Elfman, because there is no room for both and the past is automatically crap. All is normal with the world.

I asked this in the "promo" thread. But do we feel, really, that the classic Williams fanfares actually worked for Superman Returns? Or, did the composer fail to incorporate his own themes successfully? Because it it like night and day when the album is listened to. I love the classic themes, but perhaps using them shoe horned into another score is definitely not the way to go?

BTW, for some of us, this is **not** the most anticipated score. For a few, it is not anticipated at all, and neither were the Bat scores. I have not heard Rises outside of the film. Based on the film, I never will. (Then, I would have to be paid a shit ton of money to sit through that film again....). My lack of enthusiasm has nothing to to do with a lack of Williams, or anything to do with Zimmer's work. I just feel the DC heroes are not getting the films or themes/scores they deserve in live action attempts. The Batman and Superman animated series, along with Justice League managed both far better than any live action DC has in years, if ever.

I think you are right there. I try to listen to film scores of vast differences, mainly being time. I'll be blunt and straightforward: I hate older film scores. And I'm not talking Williams/Star Wars old. I'm talking like 50's/60's old. To my ears, they all (not ALL) have that same old-timey sound. I don't know how to describe it. It's like there's only a couple of instruments used and it's as if there's no themes. *THAT'S JUST MY OPINION* and it's the way I hear an older score. Now Psycho and Lawrence of Arabia on the other hand are exceptions, especially Lawrence. To me, that has to be the most grand, epic, sweeping and majestic score my ears have ever had the pleasure to enjoy.

Even though today we're all used to buying the scores to movies the practice of releasing soundtracks isn't that old, if you count the 1960's as recent. Releasing the score to musicals from Broadway and the movies was common, however pressing the score to a non musical film really didn't become part of Hollywood normal business practices until the film "The Graduate." The soundtrack, composed by Simon and Garfunkel, was a huge hit and showed people wanted to buy the scores to films. (An exception was the practice of releasing 45 rpm singles such as the theme to the "Magnificent Seven" or "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.")

This Facebook page is everything but official... they just linked this youtube video. So maybe this isn't the actual track. But if it's fan made it's actually well done!

But again, I ask. Considering what we have seen of this in the trailers, do we **really** think the Williams material will work for it? I think possibly the Krypton material could. But the film appears much darker, and edited in a much more modern way. This newer style probably fits the film better. I have not listened to any of it. I am waiting fore the album, so really cannot comment on the tracks. I adore the Williams material, but I fear it would be horribly out of place for what this film seems to be.

From what I heard around the internets Jor El's Motorcycle is that dragonfly-looking alien thing on Krypton, so I doubt William's music would work here. That's a good thing.

Dammit!! The wait is unbearable. So far it sounds good, but General Zod's theme seems a bit disappointing given the slight drone we heard in a couple of tracks, or it may be a foreshadowing of the actual theme.

Give me anything from 1990s Zimmer, at least he developed themes and ideas more back then instead of wall to wall noise. I'm a big fan of some of his older work like Broken Arrow, Backdraft, The Rock, Crimson Tide, Rain Man and Black Rain. Although, I do think that POTC3 is a rare Zimmer gem from somewhat recent years. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of positive things to say about modern Zimmer.

I'll gladly take Horner, even with the constant quoting of himself, over anything Zimmer does these days. Just not a fan of the current scoring trends of most action movies, they all blend together and sound the same, especially RCP group. My favorite score of the year so far is Giacchino's STID, but I will always favor the big orchestra sound over a collection drum sets noise samples.

I'm not a big fan of Taylor's Iron Man 3 score, although I do think it is the best of the IM scores and i enjoy the theme a lot but, it runs circles around MoS so far.

DAKoftheOTA, maybe you've just listen to the wrong old scores (or not, which is fine). I'll be honest, I tend to like re-recordings of older scores more then the original mainly for the improved sound quality. It has to be a good, pretty close to accurate, re-recording, don't like the ones that change things up or are more of an overview of the original score. This is why I really enjoy what Tadlow does. I love there recordings of The Hour of the Gun, Quo Vadis, Lawrence of Arabia, The Alamo, Guns of Navarone, and El Cid. Thanks to there efforts, Tiomkin has become one of my favorite composers with Fall of the Roman Empire in my top 5 scores. Intrada has done some good re-recordings as well. Spellbound from 1945 by Rozsa is on of the most beautiful scores I think I've ever heard. Of course, that classical orchestra sound is what I like most. Not trying to change your mind, just speaking my opinion.

I can agree with much of what you said. I also think STID is probably the best score out there this year so far. As to Man of Steel, I think I will appreciate the score more in the context of the movie rather than a stand-alone album. Zimmer's Dark Knight Rises was very similar, not a good listening experience outside the movie itself.

That said, while Zimmer might work better thematically in this incarnation of Superman (much like Elfman's Batman theme would be silly in the Dark Knight Trilogy), I would prefer a Zimmer score along the lines of Backdraft rather than what I'm hearing so far in the MOS score. At least there he had a leit motif and used variations of that for the score - and this one simply sounds like a lot of noisy drums and a few long brass blasts.

I would agree. But like you mentioned since I'm a Superman fanatic I will watch and support the film and as to the score I won't be expecting much but will still reserve my opinion later on after all I't just might work on the film's context! I already heard what seemed like a TDK score rehash in it so I won't be surprised anymore..

Superman's theme seems to be the drum roll in this score, while the guitars are the human elements and the piano is Kent's theme...Zod's theme we already know by now...

Do I dislike the fact that Superman's theme is only a motif? Nah....I get why Zimmer did that, really. He didn't want to outright compete with Williams' score, so instead he did something different and created themes for "something other than Superman". It's a misdirection, though, because he does have themes in this score...It just so happens the drum roll motif is in every theme he created here...

I like the score and I'm hoping Lone Ranger gets an expanded release like this one did (doubtful). :(

Saw Man of Steel tonight - it was hard to isolate a lot of the soundtrack due to sound effects but not much stood out to me, unfortunately. To be honest the '78 Superman had a better score with the Kansas themes being more emotional. But I'll still reserve judgement to hear the soundtrack on it's own merits.

NOT Amanda. Just other. Normally she hides us away, and tells no one. But someone she trusted tattled, and then all of her oh so kind friends used us to make fun of her. She had a weak spot and we took her so no no Amanda only others.

Yes, attacked for posts that were not hers. Those who have them use them for trade, and keep them from members until they are no longer valuable as trades. But even then sometimes they keep them from you. They are not our friends, or yours. They are sad petty little people, so let them have their precious music....
