This is a thread created to post music samples of upcoming soundtracks.

Be sure to post your own links of the samples, and not redirect a link to an website where those samples are available. Any opened thread that will be created only just to post music samples, will be merged to this thread.

CommanderBond.net has posted a link to a Coca-Cola advert on iFlyFagazine.com which appears to feature 1:30 of music from the new 007 film, Skyfall.

The piece definitely sounds Bond-esque and if it's not from the Skyfall score, it should be.

You're absolutely right and I apologize if the post is misleading.

Folks, although I suspect it's genuine, I don't know for a fact that this preview is actually from the Skyfall score.

As they posted on CommanderBond, "It's definitely a damn good track" and if this is indeed a taste of what we can expect from the Newman score, I will be very pleased.

I've been listening to it for the last 30 minutes (and at only 1:30 that's saying something ;-)) and I absolutely love it.

Arnold was too busy unfortunately due to his prior commitment as musical director for the London Olympics.

No, Arnold said on his Twitter feed that the Olympics wouldn't have interfered with SKYFALL at all. The director had worked with Newman on most of his pictures before, and simply wanted him on this one.

At first I thought "No". Then I took a close look at the poster (I always check the credits at the bottom and look at the composer and director) and saw Joseph Kosinski, who directed TRON: Legacy, which is now one of my favorite films and scores. Also, I saw "Music by M83" and I flipped shit. That's when I changed my mind.

the composers and director talk about the score---->

LOS ANGELES, March 7, 2013 — Back Lot Records will release the soundtrack for Oblivion, Universal Pictures’ upcoming action-adventure starring Tom Cruise, on April 9, 2013, it was announced today. The Oblivion Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features new music by Anthony Gonzalez of M83 and Joseph Trapanese (TRON: Uprising, The Raid: Redemption). The score features a hybrid of the traditional M83 electronic sound combined with sweeping orchestral elements. It has 16 score cues, along with a brand new song by M83 featuring Norwegian singer-songwriter Susanne Sundfor used as the end title for the film, which will release everywhere and in all formats on Friday, April 19, 2013.

Anthony Gonzalez discusses the scoring process: “It was challenging, to say, writing the music for Oblivion during my tour with M83. In the back of the tour bus, I had a small set up and was making music whenever I could. It was a little complicated at first but a great way to take a break from the tour and lose myself in Oblivion‘s score. Joseph Kosinski had a pretty good idea of what the music would be for the movie, and it took me finding a way to make him happy and make me happy during the process. The soundtrack is truly a collaboration between Joseph Kosinski, Joe Trapanese and myself.

“Scoring the film was a true enjoyment,” Gonzalez continues. ”It involved lots of stress, lots of sweat, and lots of hard work, but in the end, the soundtrack serves the movie very well. It really is a great Hollywood soundtrack. Oblivion is a big film with a big sound and a big orchestra, and while the soundtrack is different from my original idea, in the end I am very proud of it. I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of this journey.”

Trapanese adds: ”Joseph Kosinski and I have been talking about this film since before we finished our collaboration with Daft Punk on TRON: Legacy. While Oblivion is full of thrilling action and beautiful sci-fi landscapes and concepts, at its core is the story of love without bounds. It is a true honor to reunite with Joseph to create the musical elements of this new journey alongside M83′s Anthony Gonzalez. Joseph has created another beautiful canvas to which Anthony and I can explore complex emotions and rich sonic textures. It was no easy task to score such an epic story, but we are all thrilled with what we were able to accomplish together.”

Oblivion’s director, Joseph Kosinski, concludes: “Anthony creates music that is aspirational, emotional and uniquely his own. I teamed him with Joe Trapanese , who I worked with on my first film and another phenomenal talent. Together they have created the score that I have dreamed about since I first put this story down on paper eight years ago.”

Ok. SO questions of Zimmer's abilities aside. Which is more important to you members? A score that as a stand alone album is epic and awesome, and timeless, or an album that is meh as a stand alone, but perfectly works in it's intended movie. I know, ideally we'd have both, but that occurs less and less these days....

A superlative effort will stand on it's own with or without visuals but that's not to say that a soundtrack can't be great when partnered with a film and a lousy standalone listen. I've heard many of those.

I usually seek out the music after i have seen a film i enjoy. I'm definitely not someone who absolutely must have EVERYTHING by one composer. On some rare occasions i have found a score that i like before i've seen the film, but then it's music to me. Not something that accompanies a film and i do watch the film afterwards even though i fear the worst... if that makes sense ;)

The 6 tracks from the Star Trek Into Darkness soundtrack that played on WQXR's Movies on the Radio last night. Taken from original 128k MP3 file from the streaming version of the show at WQXR - New York's Classical Music Radio Station (http://www.wqxr.org/#!/programs/movies/2013/may/04/)

UPDATED 11 May 2013 2 NEW tracks from Radio-Zoom Germany broadcast (that was a couple of days before WQXR and no-one managed to get a rip of it...until now) are included in the package, hope to find more from that source soon.

No re-encoding done on the tracks apart from Star Trek Main Theme, as the start of that was obscured by the host's commentary, and a clean version was played for a bit at the start of the show, so had to edit the two together with Audacity.

Tracklist
1. Logos/Pranking the Natives (3:00)
4. London Calling (2:09)
6. The Kronos Wartet (5:24)
8. Ship to Ship (2:49)
10. Warp Core Values (2:52)
12. The San Fran Hustle (4:59)
14. Star Trek Main Title Theme (3:25)
15. Ode to Harrison (6:33)

Ode to Harrison is not on the official soundtrack, but may be a bonus track on the digital versions.

I've always loved how Giacchino's cues are named. "London Calling", clearly after The Clash's song of the same name and "Kronos Wartet" is obviously named after The Kronos Quartet.

Thanks for this...the actual show was very fascinating to listen to as well. As the host really did a great job of interviewing Giacchino and getting his thoughts on various tracks and insight. At the end of the interview he also talked about currently writing music for the Siblings W "Jupiter Ascending". It was quite an entertaining show. I can't wait for the full album as well.

Really loved the Harrison theme, let's hope we not only we get to hear it big in the film, but to have it in a deluxe edition, like the frist Giacchino score. :D

Also, seeing the film this weekend!!!

I believe you are indeed correct, sir (ma'am?) I knew it wasn't Giacchino himself, but they are his cues. It's funny, he and Chris Tilton must have the same editor, cause Tilton's Fringe cues are also named in the same manner. And while Giacchino did score some of the first season, Tilton scored the rest of the series

The beginning of "Kronos Wartet" must be Giacchino's take on the "Klingon Theme"... Very aggressive. I like it.

Well the actual release won't be worth it either, in my opinion. This "music" is just noise to me, devoid of melody and emotion. It may go good with the visuals, but as a standalone experience this score does not hold up with the kind of clout Superman wields. Yes this is the modern Superman, but Superman is an icon of power, humility, and all the best qualities a hero stands for. The music doesn't even come close to reflecting that. John Williams, heck even John Ottoman, wrote a way better score with a discernible melody and style that creates a nice consistent experience with both the visuals and as a separate listening experience. To me, as a fan of film music, the download wouldn't even be worth my time. Now that is not to say that I condemn those of you who enjoy Hans Zimmer's music as I have enjoyed some of his scores (Last Samurai, Gladiator, and Inception), but this is just my two cents.

And I am talking about the preview of the score on Soundcloud ;).

You're a bigger fan than I am, for I haven't had any interest and no intention of listening to Last Samurai, I don't care for Gladiator at all, and I've never gotten the whole Inception Insanity.

I have a lot of interest in this film, but none in the score. Not yet anyway.

Hans Zimmer and his clones "killed" the true art of creating music for films. His pop/rock music is dated and nothing "fresh" or "modern".

Just for a time - cycle of nature - just the same as soundtracks went rock/comptempary back in the 70's until Williams revitilsed the field with a big orchestral score for Star Wars. True music score will return in time (even Williams himself is a pale shadow of his formerself - it's what is demanded (apparently) these days.)
