Probably I loke this more then Kojima’s Metal Gear , but this is only my wonderfull taste for Mecha Designs. And ZOE are one of my favorite Mecha designs I have seen it ^^

Man, I can’t wait till October 30th when the ZOE HD Collection comes out in NA. It’s been so long since playing these games.
As for mecha design, yes absolutely excellent designs. I like how they look functional and graceful at the same time. That’s how a good design really should be.
Yoji Shinkawa has a very good understanding of that.
I’d say that the role Zone of Enders series is that it raised a bar to mecha designs in game industry just like Neon Genesis Evangelion did in anime back in its time.

Believe it or not I never played any of the games. They were alwasy incredibly rare to see even on sale in my country. Dammit. The first Game I just saw once on sale, and when I had teh money to buy it, it was no more. One of the saddest days of my life was that one. 🙁
The same happened to me with The 2nd Runner.
Adn even today, trying to get second handed is a bicth thing. The people who are putting themon sale on mycountry, push the price to the limit of what you can’t afford and they say "This is Very RARE! SO PAY IT!!"
It is pretty stupid of these guys, and I feel so bad always when I see bits of the game in youtube. 🙁

I loved it both OVA and the TV. The soundtrack si my favorite of all that Hikaru Nanase has composed… the plot in the anime is very good.
About the mecha design, I always had kind of for those "wing" things.

I recomend you to see the mecha design by Mamuro Nagano. Best known with The Five Star Stories and Heavy Metal L-gaim
He worked right beside Yoshiyuki Tomino in BRAIN POWERD mangas as the Mecha design. I recomend you to see the anime. It is sooooo considered boring. But I disagree in many levels.
I know the animation is not the best, and at the time it could be much better and less "glitched" but overall, ifyou dont care about that and follow the story you will be hooked. The Mechas of this "World" of Yoshiyuki Tomino are one of my favorite.

"Beyond the Bounds" was already for me an epic song, or one of the epic songs I ever heard in my entire life. This Eshericks Remix lives to keep "her" continously epic.
"ALOIVIA – arousal mix -" and "Final Battle – L.E.D. STYLE MIX -" are what I call my high points. Really love them.
Sota Fujimori track is… well… Sota Fujimori… so… Do you really want me to say something? XD

I’m familiar with Mamuro Nagano’s work as well. He has a unique style which can also be described as elegant and graceful. This is what makes them stand out (just like ZOE’s designs) among the majority of mecha concepts which traditionally had bulky and blocky robots (Gundam).

It’s a shame you never got a chance to play the originals and I can actually understand that Anubis the 2nd Runner was rare. It was the same in the United States, the game was often seen going for a high price whenever I checked several years back. Guess I got lucky to play it when it was first released. I owned the disc but played it on a friend’s PS2 since I never owned that console. This were great times. It even had a similar feel of the environments and how structures looked in Metal Gear Solid 2. Yoji Shinkawa was working on both titles and I think he deserves a lot of credit for such outstanding ideas.

Maybe now will be a good opportunity for you to experience the ZOE universe with the release of this HD Collection. I’m so looking forward to take control of Jehuty once again 🙂

Oh and almost forgot: yes I saw the TV and OVA adaptations, back in 2007 i think, and would say it was ok. Frankly I wasn’t too impressed with it probably because the games were of a much higher quality than this. Yes the anime was only suppose to be a side story set in the same universe as ZOE, but still, it could have been better. The games’ events were more engaging and full of combat, by the end I couldn’t get enough of it, while anime was kind of to dragging on with a lot forgettable babble in between. Also the games had a serious tone, even dramatic some times, but anime had a more comic approach which seemed out of place. And if comparing the characters, I found the games’ cast to be more likable and interesting. Maybe if the TV series had a bigger budget and a different director/writer it would actually be a solid project worthy of a ZOE licence, otherwise I see it only as a promotional by-product meant to support the core titles.
