An ambitious parody of Pirate and Cloak-and-Dagger films directed by Mel Damski in 1981, with a real crazy cast which combines very different artistic worlds: Some Monthy Python members (Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, John Cleese), the usual actors in Mel Brooks� movies (Peter Boyle, Madeline Kahn, Marty Feldman, Kenneth Mars), two ephemeral American comedy stars as Cheech & Chong, prestigious and venerated well known British comedians (Peter Cook, Spike Milligan), the luxury supporting actors regularly appearing in great productions (James Mason, Susannah York, Michael Hordern, Ferdy Maine), and even a cameo role by David Bowie!� The score composed and conducted by John Morris (Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, The Elephant Man, The Doctor and the Devils) is a delight from the beginning to the end, one of his best and most meticulous works. With a retentive leitmotiv for the Pirate Yellowbeard, and an enormous amount of themes for characters and situations, in a terrific homage to the classic scores from the Golden Age composers, like Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Alfred Newman or Max Steiner. A real masterpiece, courtesy of one of the most greatest creators of the American cinema from the seventies and eighties: Mr. John Morris.

Thank you, KevinG, for the score and the artwork (the CD scan here ()); I’m enjoying its playful adventurous mood, feeling it kind of a mix between tales from story books and animated cartoons; little darkness, for a change, is very welcome. Besides, it’s a limited edition from Quartet Records -1000 copies only-, so, an added value.

Lol, how cool… it has just sounded a part that is very similar to the beginning of the Thunderbirds’ theme, in the track #24, 0:43. It repeats two times in time-synch with it, but variating the end of the melody, and then has the change of tone too… If there is some rescue operation at that moment in the movie, this might have been a twink to Barry Gray.
