So i just started playing ffv a few weeks a go and I LOVED it.
Compared to the other classics before it it is amazing.
The previous ffs soundtracks are boring and uncreative compared to ffv.
The music just sounded so original and beautiful I’ve been unable to listen to anything else but the ffv ost.
The story, the characters, and the battle system are all greatly superior to the games before it.
Maybe its just because i played ffiv right before it and I HATED it.
But I was wondering how you guys felt about it.

My third favourite classic behind II and VI.

The script is brilliant (especially in the advanced version) and the characters are alright I suppose. Agree about the msic, it is pretty good.

The main shining points in my opinion are X-Death, Gilgamesh and the job system. It is pretty deep and learning all abilities can take a lot of time.

Depends on how much you like the game.

The advanced version includes 4 exclusive jobs, a new and challenging dungeon and a music player. Plus the game doesn’t take a while to load when visiting the menu screen. Plus it’s portable.

I’d say it’s definately worth it if you’re a fan of the original.

One of the better FF’s imo. (xcept for the fact that you should NEVER re-enter the library cuz u get stuck all the way and get to restart your game).
Even though the story was a bit… cliche… the gameplay was fantastic!

I never got that far in this game. I was playing the Anthology version and just couldn’t take the loading times anymore and also didn’t feel like restarting on an emulator. But from what I have played of it, it’s definitely my favorite classic FF. Gameplay over story on this one. And yeah, the music is great, but not necessarily better than other FFs before it IMO.

🙂 Love the thread title! Wonderful FFV indeed. Yeah, I like this game and have championed in other threads in this section because I consider it underrated. Yeah, great soundtrack — I own it and consider it well worth the money. Favorite tracks include "Battle with Gilgamesh," "Ahead on Our Way," "The Drago Spreads Its Wings," "A Presentiment" (opening theme), and all of the closing themes.

I grew quite attached to the characters. The script — is variable, depending on what version you play — there are a lot of translations out there. But on the whole, I quite enjoyed it. And many of the battles in this game are quite challenging. There are also some pretty neat and surprising moments, although since this thread isn’t spoiler-tagged, I won’t really go into any detail on it.

sil’fur — if you’re still reading, have you beaten it yet, and if not, where are you at?

I’d love to play V Advanced, but I don’t have a portable gaming system and probably won’t be getting one any time soon.

I’m playing FFV advance, and while I stopped playing FFI and II after 30 minutes I like this one much more. It’s just better that the person you play with is just a guy travelling on his own with his chocobo. And it’s not that he immediatly gets a request from one or another king *cough FFI cough*. It all happens just by accident… well, to make a long text short, I just like this one more. and indeed, the music is more addictive than the previous FF’s. I like the overworld song, like when you’re on the boat when there aren’t any monsters coming.

sil’fur — if you’re still reading, have you beaten it yet, and if not, where are you at?

No I have not beat it yet because ive been in Illinois for a week.

I am in the moore forest trying to kill those ridiculous crystal bosses. I cant even defeat one. So I think I’m going to use the tactic of changing everyone to a summoner and all summoning titan to take out 3 of the 4 crystals.
Its alot for complicated than that but I hope it will work.

Also if you have any hints or tips this part of the game or anyother part of the game id like to hear them.

Question: How do I get the petrified weapons? Is it a side quest or just part of the main storyline?

Oh yes, those crystal bosses can be tough. Your strategy seems solid, though — did it work?

Petrified weapons? Sorry, but I’m not sure exactly what you’re referring to… unless you mean the twelve legendary weapons in the castle? If that’s what you mean, then you can’t get them just yet. Don’t worry about it — it is indeed part of the main storyline and you’ll be given specific instructions on how to get your paws on them later. Actually, though, it’s possible to beat the game without getting a single one, though you’d have to be really strong and you’d miss out on a lot of stuff.

Well, it’s currently my fourth favorite behind VI, VII and VIII. Almost no character changing, and I liked the idea of class system. The story is long, too. I’ll probably be putting VIII aside and getting V advance instead if I do move overseas. Seems like a better idea.

YES I finally beat them I had to modify the stratagy all little cause it said to cast titan 5 times but i had to cast 4 or else they would kill me. But I did it and Krile joined. yay?
