Sir William Turner Walton OM (29 March 1902 8 March 1983) was a British composer and conductor.
His style was influenced by the works of Stravinsky and Prokofiev as well as jazz music, and is characterized by rhythmic vitality, bittersweet harmony, sweeping Romantic melody and brilliant orchestration. His output includes orchestral and choral works, chamber music and ceremonial music, as well as notable film scores. His earliest works, especially Edith Sitwell’s Faade, brought him notoriety as a modernist, but it was with orchestral symphonic works and the oratorioBelshazzar’s Feast that he gained international recognition.

Henry V (1944) was directed by Laurence Olivier and it was the first (of four) Walton-Olivier collaboration (Henry V, 1944; Hamlet, 1948; Richard III, 1955; Three Sisters). This version, arranged by Christopher Palmer for narrator, chor and orchestra, was performed for the first time on May 10, 1990, conducted by Neville Marriner with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields Orchestra & Chorus and Christopher Plummer as narrator.
