Why do the characters not have mouths or fingers?

Why do they not have these, surely they wouldnt b able to do a lot of things in life without them:O The guys talk without mouths…..creepy……….

id say they fell off…
and my theory is that they can talk telepathically so thats another reason why they didnt put sound in it…
then theyre mouths stopped functioning so they lost it….
and since theyre telepathic… theyre also telekinetic… so thats another reason why theyre fingers are really stubs on their hands!!!

Well, I believe this was a graphic problem Squaresoft had with the PS conversion. I won’t give a dumb answer lol, merely a theory. They do have mouths and fingers in the cutscenes, but the graphics of normal gameplay didn’t make it necessary (back in 1997 anyway) to have mouths. Now, I know you say "but Pacman had a mouth and he was made a long time ago" BUT, the general story of that was his mouth, eating all those nice pellets. Of course, with FF7, you see little dots on their mouth every now and then, but since it’s an RPG, who really cares? The fingers…with i’m sure if they zoomed in during gameplay, you could see them, cause they’re there in battle. So there’s the hypothesis.

I voted that Square was too lazy, just because it’s snarky and funny. But seriously, I never even really noticed. Doesn’t Cid at least have a mouth though? How else does he smoke that cigarette?

I dunno he prob has sum crapp drew on mouth:P Well everyone else seems to talk fine without a mouth, so why not be able to hold a cig with no mouth?:p I can see how he would do it….

I’ll vote for they fell off…because they’re there in the PC version…but i think the PS couldn’t hold them tight so they fell off…
And I guess Cid can hold the cigarete because it’s stuck into his teeth after his mouth fell..(that’s probably why it doesn’t fall off and he never changes it:p)…

Well, now that I think about it, I think he has the cigarette only in battle and FMV.

The mouths were ALWAYS there…the only reason you’re not seeing them is because of the PlayStation version’s low resolution graphics. You can see their mouths in the PC version. The mouth was actually only a "line" that, since the PlayStation version was running only 320 X 240 and pixelated, isn’t visible. You can clearly see it on the 640 X 480 PC version, but NOT if you play the PC version in 320 X 240 (in other words, you’ve got such a crappy PC you can’t run the game at high resolution, which only requires a Pentium II with any 8 megs of VRAM 3D accleretor card).

Hey, yeah, you’re right. I just loaded up my copy of the PC version of the game and Cloud does indeed have the mouth. So it is actually the Playstation’s graphics.
