Who was Squall based off of?

Who was Squall’s character based off of? From memory I think it was a Japanese singer. I know it was put in one of the forums some time ago, but I can;t be bothered looking for it.

I think he was based on the actor River Phoenix. I remember reading about it on a certain site. i’ll try looking for it again.

I actually found it. His name is Camui Gackt.

Yep, he was based on the J-pop gender-bending singer, Gackt. Check out the similiarities in this photo (). I heard that he’d worn a jacket similar to the one Squall wears, and was seen wearing it again after FF8’s release.

I thought he was based of River Pheonix too. But I can see some resemblance to that Gackt guy. Even though he looks kind of girlish.

Well, when I saw a picture of Squall (before I knew who Gackt was), I thought he was very feminine. He looked a lot like this one female exchange student who’d gone to my school. Squall definitely isn’t the American picture of masculine, that’s for sure.
