Who Killed Zack?

So just the other day my friend called me and asked me who killed Zack and i told him Sephiroth because of what happened in Nibelheim but then i thought about it and theres the scene where Cloud And Zack are being chased by Shinra soldiers and Zack gets shot up and Cloud picks up his sword. So my question is which killed him anyone know or think they know.

If you recall, Sephiroth said that he wanted to see his mother. Under this reasoing, I think it is safe to assume that Zack thought that Sephiroth said that he wanted to see Zack’s mother and then kill her, so Zack rushed home to tell his mother, only to find Cloud there killing the family dog. Zack then shot himself. that is what happened imo

the scene in the reactor was before Zack and cloud arrive at Midgar. So it was the soldiers that killed him, He must have been weak.
