WHAT IS THIS?

Wipeout needs no introduction – it was the first hyper-futuristic sci-fi anti-gravity racing game, it had not one but two incredible soundtracks featuring various incredible dance artists from the day, and it helped sell a LOT of systems in 1995.

The console versions included music from a variety of acts, but the PC versions had an entire soundtrack of their own composed by Tim Write aka Cold Storage, and these are what I present remastered in these collections.

Tim’s work for Wipeout 1995 and Wipeout 2097 deserve to go down in history as unique and totally pioneering works, not only for their musical content but their status as soundtracks for games. The first of the two, in particular, innovates a great combination of highly melodic trance and techno beats mixed with intense breakbeat loops at higher BPMs. And unlike so much dance music from the time and even since, every track forms and shifts into different sections with very different and highly memorable melodies. There is so much energy and drive in this music and it deserves far, far more accolades than it gets. And it already gets some.

Remastered from my own rips of the original PC versions. Including "Onyx" from Wipeout Pure, which is sadly the last official piece of music Tim composed for any Wipeout games. But it’s incredible so it deserves to be here.
