WHAT IS THIS?
Cotton is a long-standing shoot-em-up series from the late-80s and early 90s. Of course the PC Engine received a version and some mighty music heads were involved in the soundtrack. Here it is, remastered, bigger and wider and sounding better than ever.
Generally up to the usual T’s Music standards, expect rocking throughout, searing leads, relentless rhythms and energy. This is another great early-90s Japanese game rock soundtrack that deserves more recognition. Every track has at least a couple of great riffs to offer. The stage themes are game rock par excellence, though the boss themes perhaps rely less on guitar and that is to their detriment (boss 5 is perhaps the weakest here), this is still highly recommended listening if only for the incredible stage themes. Mobygames claims that Kenichi Hirata is the composer, so it is likely he worked with T’s Music to create a "produced / arranged" version, hence I am crediting both.
Audio is taken from a rip of the original Japanese PC Engine CD. None of the intermission tracks are included as they repeat music often. I re-arranged the tracks to stages first then bosses for a more "progressing crescendo" listening experience similar to that of the Thunder Force series.
