THE SOUL OF NIGGER CHARLEY (1973) Don Costa LP RIP [FLAC]

I once asked FSM’s Lukas Kendall if there was any chance of releasing this superb Don Costa score. His response was that he thought a release would be unlikely, because studio lawyers would be very reluctant to be associated with “a title like that.”

So, it seems this groovy Blaxploitation Western score is forever cursed by the title it’s lumbered with. Ah, well… we’ll just have to make do with an LP transfer then, won’t we? This is from my own vinyl collection. Enjoy!

Shocked? If you’re encountering this movie for the very first time, that’s understandable. And this is a sequel – there was another movie the previous year. Unsurprisingly there was some controversy over the title, and the level of violence depicted in the film. It didn’t seem to have much impact on the film makers or the studio, since they rushed out this second movie. You can’t catch either film on DVD (other than bootlegs) for obvious reasons.

As I said, it’s a shame that the music is overshadowed by the film – although it does have something of a cult following among the vinyl crowd.

Yes thanks for the share. Indeed ‘The Soul of Nigger Charley’ is a 1973 blaxploitation western film that is the sequel to 1972’s ‘The Legend of Nigger Charley.’ The 1972 film did not have a soundtrack release, however, the song in the beginning with music and lyrics by John Bennings, sung by Lloyd Prince, was released only on a 7" promo (Paramount PAA0168) and they are scarce.
