Originally I had downmixed the 5.1 here and included some extra material. It’s been explained to me that I didn’t have to as Mr. Merrick already has posted the 24bit/48khz stereo rip here:

Thanks to Mr. Merrick for posting and NefMor for pointing that out. I don’t want to knowingly usurp another person’s post without permission and/or while their links are still active. If I could change the title of this thread I would.

The additions in the link below include the original album releases of the scores and the material from The Rarities Archive in 16/44 ALAC. There are also some easter eggs in MP3@320 because I believe that’s the only way they exist.

As a bonus feature, they include my custom albums for each film called the "Composer Showcase". These are edited interviews and commentaries from Howard Shore, Peter Jackson, et al about how all the music in the trilogy came together. Each bite is accompanied by samples of the scores germane to the topic. These albums are medium bitrate AAC however.

Yes, it’s a word. It’s used more often than you think.
Not in this forum, however.
But other forums.

I found a way to downmix

Pretty sure that’s been around for a long time, too.

Mixing channel mapping doesn’t affect bit depth or sample rate.
You’d have to make an actual effor to alter these qualities.

The only thing is if you downmixed to stereo correctly.
Depending what software you use, it should downmix to stereo with proper coefficients, according to material.
In this case: Music.
So DPL and other techniques are ill-advised.
Also, if you paid any attention to clipping.
Non-Linear editors (like Adobe Audition or Sony SoundForge) have options to view/detect clipping.
If you didn’t check for clipping after downmixing, there’s a chance you created clipping since you’re merging the power of each channel into fewer channels.

Not trying to attack but to inform so that you speak properly next time (ie, with more confidence in your craft).

My thanks to Mr. Merrick for posting the DVD-Audio 5.1 mixes a while back. But as we know, surround sound isn’t very compatible with earbuds or in the car. So I found a way to downmix them while retaining the 24bit/48khz quality losslessly (is that a word?).
@Soundguy28, You might have missed that, Mr. Merrick was kind enough to share 24bit-48kHz DVD-A Stereo direct rip, no need to downmix…
