I know the 320kbps MP3 version from the Google Play store is already floating around here; figured I’d upload the M4A version from the iTunes store (I believe they use AAC, constrained VBR at 256kbps). And yes, this is the Selected Edition … This means, no Green Hill Zone, Chemical Plant Zone or Oil Ocean Zone. 🙁

Generally, at such high bitrates, modern lossy encoders will sound the same. So while it’s true that AAC tends to perform better than MP3 in listening tests, at these high bitrates, it will be virtually impossible to tell them apart, or to distinguish them from their lossless, original sources. You can do the test yourself and compare the sound quality of the MP3 version with that of this AAC version (using, preferably, a double-blind method, such as ABX). You’ll see they both sound the same.
Having said that, on July 19, 2018 (exactly two weeks from the writing of this post), Japan will get a 2-CD soundtrack (https://vgmdb.net/album/77313) of Sonic Mania Plus that comes with the Japanese Limited Edition and DX Pack for Nintendo Switch & PS4. I really am hoping someone here will get it and then rip it in lossless format so we can finally have the full OST in lossless quality (though, unfortunately, still without the Sonic 2 tracks).
