I’ve been tasked with checking out some music by Ryuichi Sakamoto. I’ve heard his most recent album (async) but his catalogue is pretty big, something like 20 solo albums, not including film scores, collabs, live albums, or stuff with Yellow Magic Orchestra.
Wikipedia lists them along with their peak chart positions, but only a few albums have descriptive articles. The article for Chasm, 2004, says "The album is experimental, pairing Sakamoto’s piano work with ambient and glitch programming." That sounds cool, and I enjoy music that’s melodic but also a bit abrasive.
So…. does anybody have recommendations?
