is it possible to return to midgar after diamond weapon kills rufus every time i got to midgar theres a man at the gate saying he lost his key what do i do?

Yep definently its possible,go to bone country or town and dig for it.

if you dig at bone town for normal treasure then dig where there is an X scratched in the ground you get a key
