I am sorry to bother you, but… How the hell did you manage to open the VPP archive with whe music in the PS2 version of the game?

P.S. I know about VPPbuilder, but it simply didn’t work (at least for me) with VPPs from [PS2] Red Faction 2 and [PS2] Summoner 2. GAP and Dragon Unpacker didn’t manage to open it either (I guess, guys from Volition somehow modified the format since RF1 and S1).

P.P.S. And thank you very much for the ADPCM’s from PS2 version of this game.

Thank you for the explanation. With this information I finally managed to crack the music.vpp (from PS2 version of "Summoner 2") open.
I didn’t however possess the means and the knowledge to use your script properly, so I just copied and copied (using HEX-editor) ADPCM-chunks from data file manually, one by one. It took a while (and, please, let’s not talk about aesthetics =) ), but it worked just fine.
BTW, as far as I know, all Volition games (I don’t know, however, about NGC versions, never needed to know that using vgmstream) used interleave = 0x4000 and offset = 0x0C settings in their ADPCMs.

sure it doesn’t exist 🙂 because it is an audiofile!! not video! so there is no video stream. but you can convert .tak files to wav, mp3, ogg or whatever and then put it IN the movies.

Thanks to Alpha23 and Dirtyman for helping me to solve the Summoner 2 problem. I just ran the script through quickbmp, really with no idea what I was doing, and the files were extracted with no problem. I’ve been trying to crack the Summoner 2 files for some time, also going down the VPP Builder dead-end. So now I have a folder of files with no extension and am not sure what they are or how to play them. WMP can’t do anything with them. Now that I have these files, what can I do with them.

On second thought, I’m beginning to think the script doesn’t work with the music.vpp file from summoner 2. I found the song titles using a hex-editor.

@Dirtyman – how did you select the ADPCM data chunks, and what file type was that data?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks very much for responding. Did you run the extractor script on the Summoner 2 file as well? The XeNTaX script returns the "interleave or file size wrong" on the music files when I run them through quickbms. I can send the music.vpp file or some of the extracted files if you’re interested, though it looks like you have a lot on your plate right now. I was hoping to be able to crack this myself and upload the tracks for everyone, but it seems to be out of my league.

You are the man – thanks! I’ll definitely take a look at the files to see where I was going wrong.
