For me, one of these examples was The Da Vinci Code. Hans Zimmer is a genius but apart from the last scene, the music was overblown and made things too intense (and the movie laughable as a result).

Pick just about any movie in the past five years, and that is another example of a crappy score! Very, very few great scores any more. At least by the definition of scores with punch. Modern day scores all seem to be written to be in the background as much as possible.
