So I found this deal for a box set with Yakitate Japan that has both chinese and english subtitles (link bellow) so im wondering if anyone of you have tried these region free boxsets, and how good the translations are..

With bootleg DVDs like that, it’s a total crapshoot. Some have moderately decent translations and some are completely unreadable. They’re NEVER high quality though. If the title is licensed in your area, it’s better to buy the official release.

Okay so these are bootlegged, thanks for telling me before I made a big mistake

I actually fell for that once, so I’m happy to help. Just remember that region-free anime DVDs are always bootlegged, and not a penny of what you pay for them goes to the people who worked to make the shows.

And in case you’re wondering, yes, I did go back and buy a legit copy of the thing I bought.

Thats very helpful to know 🙂 i really appreciate it, Ill keep it in mind another time id feel for giving it a go…

It is a pity however how many great animes wont reach western shores, I guess id be left with the choice of learning the japanese language (not a bad one however :P)

Actually, well over 90% of the anime released in Japan gets licensed for western release these days. A lot of older stuff still isn’t available, but new shows are almost always picked up.

Maybe that is true, but the ones ive ended up watching doesnt seem to have any support but that may be because they arent as popular? examples (Yakitate Japan, D Gray Man, Ghost Hound *new i know but i doubt a western release*)

I wouldn’t be surprised if D Gray Man gets licensed next year. Yakitate, probably but I’d rather put my money on the first if I was betting. I only mention those two because they’re the only ones I know something about. (I love the Yakitate Japan Manga. Collecting all the volumes has been a nightmare though >.< )
