As you may have guessed, I am somewhat of a Final Fantasy whore, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. I also am a fan of the occasional MMORPG…so you can probably guess how happy I was to hear that FFXI had the combination of the two. And then, of course, my major disappointment upon hearing that there are no plans to release it here in Australia.

I dunno about you guys, but to me it feels a bit like Australia are the second class citizens of the gaming world, with Japan and America getting all the good stuff almost before we even get the news of its development. Yeah I know that the NTSC to PAL conversion takes a bit of time, but wouldn’t it be awesome if more games were made PAL in the first place?

I guess for most stuff it doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. But now we have a whole new problem to contend with; Network Gaming.

Oh believe me, I think networking consoles is the bomb. Meeting new people, testing your skills against others, and of course blowing their heads off…what’s not to like?

Well say you get a new game, and you load it up for some tasty network play, and then some bastard in the States who’s had the game for six months already and knows it inside out wipes the floor with your PAL arse.

Call that equal footing?

Hell no!

Britain is a PAL territory, but the SAS train us up in gaming before we venture into network play.

THEY DONT JUST SHOOT TERRORISTS YOU KNOW!

Man, I put a lot of effort into this report, i thought it’d receive a better response than this…

You call that effort? You can see the whole post on one page :p

j/k 😉

Seriously though, people are going to wipe the floor with you whether you’re in PAL or NTSC territories – because even in the States, there are going to be people who only just bought the game as well.

The only solution is to find someone you’re on equal footing with – Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow solves this well by having a ranking system, and i’m sure there are many similar games that follow suit.

CounterStrike is one such game that needs a ranking system. I’m sick of getting slaughtered 🙁
