I recently received Final Fantasy XII Collector’s Edition as a gift. I was playing through the game and when I reached into a new area (Dalmasca Estersand as a matter of fact), the game just stopped. When entering the area, the music suddenly fades away and I end up staring at a black screen. After realizing the problem, I returned the game and bought a NEW one. The problem still occurred. I became extremely disappointed with this problem. The Playstation 2 that I have is about 4 months old and it is the SLIM version. Then I started to wonder if it was my playstation 2 that was the problem, so I used my friend’s Playstation 2 to see if it would work. I played the game from where I was. The game stopped again like it did before when I was entering that same area. I was wondering what was going on….Please explain the problem to me

That’s kind of a new one for me…. I do have problems with the game loading from power-up, but the only other time that happened was going from Tchita Uplands to Cerobi Steppe(where the blue save crystal is). It evenyually loaded, but it took forever and I could hear it making the sounds like it was trying to read the disc. I know that doesn’t help, but have you tried waiting it out to see if it gets past the glitch?

Yeah, this game does take some time to load a new area. That’s what happens when programmers decide to render out extremely vast, detailed landscapes. Give it 30 seconds or so…then you should be good. Hopefully.

This game strongly taxes the limits of the outmoded PS2 system. You might consider playing it on a PS3, but I know they’re pricey and it’s hard to get your paws on one.

I’m not sure I can say as I’ve noticed delays of this length on mine, but it can definitely be slow at times. Check back and let us know if you were able to get it to work after waiting.

P.S. — I am not using the slim version.
