Here is the 2002 release(?) of 1943’s Phantom of the Opera issued in 2002 by (I believe the now defunct) SoundTrack Factory. I added a question mark after "release" because it is not an "official score"..but (other than perhaps some really old vinyl) it is likely to be about all there is available. There is some dialogue included on this recording. Anyone familiar with these old SoundTrack Factory releases knows to expect that. There are 6 tracks that feature (predominately) the work of Edward Ward. A few bits of famous pieces (by even more famous composers) are the inspiration behind several tracks. Also included is a 15 minute bonus track which can best be described as a "musical montage" from Universal’s 1932 version of The Mummy. I’m not really sure why they included it but..well..consider it a "bonus track" (I reckon). It’s scratchy and lo-fi….but don’t let that stop you from reliving a little early Hollywood horror music (scans are included). Please enjoy Phantom of the Opera (and The Mummy)!

This is a hoot! In addition to the Edward Ward pieces (including his "Lullaby of the Bells concerto") there are several opera hodge-podge sequences put together by the guys who later wrote Kismet using Borodin’s music – in this one I believe they use themes from Tchaikovsky’s 4 Symphony…all sung by Nelson Eddy and someone who wasn’t Jeanette MacDonald!

Yep. Track 5 on this recording ("Le Prince Masque du Caucasus") is described as being "contrived" from Tchaikovsky’s 4th Symphony. Another track is "contrived" from a work by Chopin. Hmmmmm :). Enjoy!

Quite a unique fund. Always liked Ward’s music, especially for Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves.
