Doesn’t anyone else think that overworld music can get incredibly annoying? if so…which ff has the most annoying music of all?

it’s probably because i’m playing ff8 right now, but i think that that a the most annoying overworld music

Yes. FFVIII’s overworld theme Blue Fields is generally regarded as the worst overworld music ever. However, as a general rule I actually enjoy the overworld music in the FF games. Unfortunately Nobuo Uematsu had a habit of often changing the cool themes to some simple, repetative muzac by the end of the game (such as the boring Evil Mist’s Rebirth in FFIX). Some of my favourite overworld music is listed below:

Main Theme of FFI: FFI
Main Theme of FFII: FFII
Ahead On Our Way: FFV
Terra’s Theme: FFVI
Main Theme of FFVII: FFVII
Crossing Those Hills: FFIX

Yeah, Blue Fields really quite blows, but I do think the orchestrated version at least redeems it somewhat.

Final Fantasy V – Ahead on Our Way – Great, great, piece. Love it.

Final Fantasy VII – Main Theme – Starts slow at first, and then really goes all out. Whenever I play through FFVII, I make it a point to listen through the entire thing at least once.

Final Fantasy IX – Crossing Those Hills – What can I say? The first taste of "Melodies of Life" in the game.

BTW – you mentioned the changing thing. That happens in FFVII too, although actually I think that piece is actually pretty good if you take the time to appreciate it.

Hmm. Well, there’s not exactly overworld music in FFXI, but I’ve gotten more then sick of most of the music by this point. I just mute it and put on Winamp most of the time.

I don’t think the overworld music for FFVIII is as bad as most people say, but it’s not one of my favorites either.

Terra’s Theme is one of my favorite pieces of music in the entire world.

*SPOILER*

Ah, the OverWorld Music. Some I like, and some I dislike. The best one for me had to be in FFVI, during both parts of the game. The first was before the World of Ruin, where Terra’s theme was the OverWorld Music. Wow, I loved it! And During the World of Ruin, I just really like that music as well.
