Oversouls

I was just wondering if you need to get an oversoul of all of the monsters in the game? I got told you had to in order to get a 100% completion, and you get a garment grid. But i have just noticed that Black Element is on that list, and the only way i bet him last time was to give him 50,000 gil!!!!!

Sharon, I’m afraid you’ve been misdirected. Oversouling all of the fiends will get you a special Garment Grid, yes. However, messing around with oversouling won’t give you a single decimal point of completion percentage.

The Garment Grid is called The End. It Breaks HP and Damage Limit and gives you access to a special ability called Finale which does heavy damage and does 99999 damage if you’ve never escaped from a battle. Fortunately, the escape counter resets with each New Game Plus, so if you actually get this, this Garment Grid is a great way to breeze through future playthroughs.

The Black Element is easily beatible if you have the Songstress’ Magical Masque or use any of the standard tricks such as Cat Nip / Trigger Happy or CONGRATS! It reappears in the later cloisters of the Via Infinito, along with most of the other tougher bosses.

so to get the end garmet grid you cant escape from any battles. and you must beat the game?

No, and no. You just have to do the thing with all the oversoulable fiends.

Correct. And then once you start the New Game Plus, that’s when you don’t want to escape from any fiends if you want to keep The End’s special ability Finale intact.

seems difficult to get EVERY fiend over-souled.dont even have half of em OS in my game

The trick to oversouling is to fight enemies of the same type, wait for one to Oversoul, escape if you already beat that particular fiend when it was oversouled and then go find another of the same type that you haven’t beat yet.
