noob question about items

Is there a way to stack items in your inventory? I have a bunch of wind and earth crystals but they are all seperate. Is there a way I can stack them so they don’t take up all my inventory space?

Yeah, it’s pretty easy to stack items, but it’s often overlooked by new players.

From what I can remember (I’m typing this from my parents’ computer so I don’t have access to the FFXI manual atm, but anyway): firstly, from the main menu, select ‘Item’, then select the item you want to stack. Hit enter to bring up a sub menu of three options: Use, Stack or Drop.

Select ‘Stack’, and then ‘Auto’ to stack all items automatically. Select ‘Manual’ if you want to stack them individually. And presto your items are all stacked.

Just be aware that not all items can be stacked – those labelled RARE, EX and RARE/EX cannot be stacked, but also some other ‘normal’ items cannot be stacked too, like Crawler Calculi.

Incidentally, Crystals though can be stacked up to stacks of a dozen, although Crystal Clusters (dropped by Elementals) cannot. It’s somewhat of a bit of trial and error working out which items can be stacked and which are not, byut I guess it’s just one more pleasure of of discovery in this game.
