Nelson Riddle: What A Way To Go! – Expanded Soundtrack Album

Like a lot of the comedies of the 1960s WHAT A WAY TO GO! is virtually forgotten today but especially noteworthy and most memorable is the fantastic score and arrangements by Nelson Riddle and the Jule Styne songs performed by Gene Kelly & Shirley Maclaine in the film, “Get Acquainted”, Happy Houseboat” & “We Love Louisa”. Although Riddle recorded an album of instrumental selections from the film released on Fox Records, it has never been reissued or released on CD and has been out of print for nearly 50 years. This new remix of the WHAT A WAY TO GO! soundtrack album is a composite of the Riddle
re-recording and actual soundtrack elements including a M&E track and in the case of Gene Kelly’s vocal of “Get Acquainted”, from the final mixed version of the film, all in stereo. The end result is over 40 minutes of pure musical magic, in my opinion, if nothing else allowing us to hear rare Jule Styne from one of his most prolific periods plus superb Nelson Riddle scoring and arrangements. They just don’t make movies or music like this any more.
