Funny how I bought this DVD not too long ago. In my opinion, Nausicaa lacked a certain originality of Miyazaki’s later animated movies. The plot seems borderline cliche: a world infested with over sized insects, and a princess who will save the world. There also didn’t seem to be much character development.

However, despite all this, I find myself still enjoying the movie. It is definitely worth a watch, but I wouldn’t expect the same kind of "magic" of Miyazaki’s other movies (Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, etc).

Yeah. I’ve had mixed feelings about seeing that one myself as I’ve heard that same thing before, and there wasn’t much about the trailer I saw that really appealed that much to me.

I’ll probably get around to watching it at some point. But while I’ve really enjoyed all the Studio Ghibli films I’ve seen so far, can’t say I feel overly enthusiastic about this one.

I’ve only ever seen it once, about 3 years ago when it was on SBS, and I loved it. They replayed it not long ago but I didn’t get around to seeing it again, I really need to find the DVD I think.

Yes. Highly recommended. It’s the first of the Ghibli films and the animation is a little choppy, but it’s still a wonderful adventure.

The manga is far superior though.

I assume from Lukey-dono’s siggy that Kalmah has left the shine.

Actually, Nausica was made immediately before Studio Ghibli was formed.

Anyway, I’d give it a miss unless you’re a die-hard fan of Miyazaki’s works. There’s a lot of better films out there.

It’s worth watching at least once. Give it a rental and buy the DVD if you really enjoyed it.

I loved Nausicaa. Although, if you’re interested, I recommend the Manga over the movie. Theres a perfect collection available with a set of Four books. The art is excellent, as is the story.

I really enjoyed Nausicaa. I do agree that I did like Howl’s and Spirited Away a little more, and the animation of those two are a little better imo. But Still a great anime none the less.

I need to find Mononoke, I have heard it is wonderful

Heaven forbid people should actually read the posts in the thread and see that posting now is pointless.
