MIKLOS ROZSA The Vinter’s Daughter, Hungarian Peasant Songs & Serenade MGM – FLAC

Although still under contract to MGM, Miklos Rozsa’s film scoring assignments in 1956 allowed him time to supervise and/or conduct several recordings of his music, including a suite from his then new film score for the Vincent Van Gogh bio picture, LUST FOR LIFE, a suite comprised of music from several of his earlier film noir scores titled BACKGROUND TO VIOLENCE for Decca Records and two LPs of concert music Rozsa composed between 1943 and 1952 for MGM Records. Recorded in Germany with the Frankenland State Symphony Orchestra, these 3 LPs were the first stereo recordings of Rozsa’s concert music. The Concerto for Strings proved so popular that it was recorded again 2 years later in Vienna with Rozsa himself conducting on a Westminster LP along with the first stereo recordings of other concert pieces, a recording which was posted just a few days ago in an excellent sounding LP transfer by filmcollector16 which I highly recommend.

My remaster of the two MGM recordings is from a very clean vinyl source and along with filmcollector16’s Westminster download will provide you with a full evening of some of Miklos Rozsa’s finest classical works, including two excellent but distinct performances of the Concerto for Strings, all in early stereo.

For many years there was a rumor that "Erich Kloss" was an alias for R�zsa himself; it was only in the days of the Internet that this misunderstanding was finally cleared.

Kloss was principal conductor of the N�rnberger Symphoniker (the Frankenland State Symphony in the first decades after the war) between 1949 and 1967.
