You need to fight him until he does that sword attack (he throws his swords on the air and they hit u) and then he dies 🙂

Pick one person (preferably with 3000+ HP) and keep their health at max throughut the battle. When you get hit by the Raining Swords, at least one person should survive.

Or just put one or more character(s) on Auto-Life (gain ability from equipment or use Quina/Amarant) and then just make sure they don’t die (if they do, you’ll have to recast, if possible) up until the point when he uses that attack.

Or another trick (which especially works well if you’re doing low-level runs, or something like Excalibur II, where you can’t level up a lot) is to have Freya on your team and just have her jump at every turn. Hopefully she’ll still be in the air when Maliris does her "Raining Sword" attack, and won’t get hit by it when it happens.

As Marilis is fire elemental, assault it with powerful ice magic attacks (Blizzaga/Blizzara, Blizzaga Sword, Shiva etc). I think it uses Reflect spells sometimes though – if this is the case, having Reflect-Null equipped cancels this annoying effect out.

Also, especially at low levels, make sure you have either Eiko or Garnet in your party and have them cast Cure spells each round (or simply alternate between casting Cures and summoning). If you have the Auto-Regen abilty, equip it to everyone that has it as it will make healing a lot easier. Finally, have Eiko or Garnet cast Protect on everyone in order to cut down the damage Raining Swords causes. Otherwise, if Quina has the Mighty Guard Blue Magic spell, cast it immediately for the same effect.

P.S. If you have a moment, don’t forget to steal the Masamune, Ultima Sword and Genji Armour that Marilis has.
