most people here always talk about the SNES rpg’s, and how much they rule. granted, they have some great RPG’s, but the Genesis had some RPG’s that absolutely knocked the socks off of some of the SNES rpg’s.

for example, i hold Shining Force 1 and 2 in greater esteem than FF6, and i think Landstalker was a better action-RPG than Zelda.

so, what are you’re favourite Genesis rpg’s, and do you hold any of them above the SNES’s rpg’s?

(i’ve used rpg way too much in this thread :eye: )

I counted 8 times :P. Phantasy Star was my favourite RPG. It kicked the crap outta all others and wasn’t on the SNES. Good for it.

I’m in total 100% agreement with the inclusion of Shining Force 2 as an all time great RPG, as it was the only game I owned on the Mega Drive not Sonic related. (I bought the console after people stopped caring about it just after the Saturn / Playstation had come out.) I was fully addicted to Shining Force 2, played it to death and loved every single moment of it. It’s because of it that I became addicted to RPGs.

I probably hold it equal to Final Fantasy VI. Okay, I’ve only ever played VI for the PS, but as it wasn’t changed from the SNES original, it’s a fair comparison. Shining Force 2 is definitely better than Final Fantasy V, and as for IV, well, I’m gonna have to play IV first.

Greetings.

I haven’t played Shining Force 2 on the megadrive, only on emulator, and what I’ve played of it, has whetted my appetite for more. Phantasy Star 2 is a favourite of mine, the story is good, gameplay good, sound good, overall I’d give it a score of "good". But there’s something about it, which draws me back to it, even after playing RPG’s on the SNES, PSX, PS2, Saturn and Dreamcast. SEGA has proven they make great games, and they continue to do so. Also, while not a RPG, Castlevania – The next generation is a good one to play as well.

Man, I love genesis rpg’s.

Shining force 1 and 2 were so great. Both games were very addictive and had great quests…they definatley top my list some where.

I also like landstalker. It was a very refreshing game to play. It was pretty much named the zelda of genesis and I totally agree.

The phantasy star games were also very fun and enjoyable rpgs. Classic games are always fun.

As for shining force, has anyone played 3? It’s much better then the genesis versions imo.

Shining force 2 was the first RPG that i ever played and is still one of my favorites. Unfortunatly it is the only mega drive (genesis) RPG that i have played.
