Is this true, and does anyone have a link to this?

I know it sounds nitpicky, but I love listening to Zimmer’s latest scores with beginnings and endings 🙂

Shocking how I can’t seem to find it. Someone posted the iTunes version, I’ve seen it. Maybe it was closed do to how many threads there are (hopfully), and disappeared into oblivion

Ok, that accounts for explosion ambience being distorted in "Terraforming", unless that one does it across the board?

Anyone have the DTS headphone versions?
Original download, not converted to anything else.

Anyone know how to play these files?
As far as I know the technology DTS Headphone X isn’t implemented yet in any product.

Hardware-wise… :itsmystery:

Software-wise, there’s players with DTS technology to decode it for your headphones.
I think the DTS plugin for Foobar2000 will do it.

Are you sure? I think it’s not so easy.
I read that this is a new approach for listening to 11.1 on headphones, a new algorithm. Don’t know if it will work with the normal DTS Plugin on speakers, maybe you need a special DTS Plugin for foobar.
It would be good if it works but I have my doubts.

If it indeed work, do you need only 2 Speakers or will it work with a 5.1/7.1 setup or only with headphones?

Well, it’s designed for headphone playback.
Headphone algorithms are very different than speaker playback.
If you play back on speakers, you’ll need a newer speaker system with new DTS decoder. And 11.1 speakers of course.
On a 5.1/7.1 system it will most likely decode as 5.1, like reading the DTS core.

What is being requested here? The Z App tracks?

ACtually found a nice article featuring info on the Z+ App and the DTS:X technology.
DTS Headphone:X Debuts on Hans Zimmer’s ‘Man of Steel’ Soundtrack | High-Def Digest (http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/news/show/DTS_HeadphoneX_Debuts_on_Hans_Zimmers_Man_of_Steel _Soundtrack/11905)

It seems you NEED an iOS/Android device to benefit this.
SO far there’s no Windows or Mac app that will allow you to play these downloaded DTS H:X files from the computer.
Also in any receivers with current DTS related technology that updates from the internet can receive an update to play these in 11:1.
Not discreet 11:1. It’s like Dolby Pro Logic/DTS Neo:6 but way more advanced.
But you will have to check if your receiver is compatible with the future dates when the updates to the firmware come out.

I imagine in the future, there’ll be DTS players on PC/MAC that can take advantage of the HX technology.
And then others will be able to start making different plugins for different programs like Foobar2000.
Just nothing right now.

NOTE that this technology isn’t the same as the current DTS Headphone technology so it won’t work as intended.

So unless you have an Android, the DTS HX files will completely useless to most users until the future arrives.
Listening to them without the proper DTS decoder will offer LITERALLY NO DIFFERENCE than what you’ve already got from the stereo CD.

Right now you’re best bet is to play the stereo music through a reciever with DPL/DPLII or the DTS NEO:6 dsp functions.

Also the article has an interview with Hans Zimmer where he states he didn’t want to do MoS because it would be messing with 2 icons: Superman and John Williams.

I doubt that you can play it on current Android/iOS devices with 11.1 because they all are missing the DTS Headphone X technology!
The first cpu which will have this technology included is the Snapdragon 800 which is build in the Samsung Galaxy S4 – released later this year.

Right now, I guess, no device is able to play those files in 11.1 or even 7.1.

I think the article was saying it can be downloaded with the Z+ app when you prove you purchased the Deluxe CD.
I imagine it installs it silenty as an add-on to the app.
Though, we’ve no dedicated iOS/Android hackers to prove otherwise.

What a dick move from Zimmer.

When he gave us Sherlock Holmes in "5.1 surround" for download in WAV format, it was really just Dolby Pro Logic 1/2 encoded WAV files.
Literally made no difference.
You could play the stereo CD through the DPL1/2 dsp and achieve exactly the same sound.
It’s not a very "surround sound" dynamic score.
Trevor Morris’ score for Immortals was exactly the same for its "surround sound".
