Making your own music

So the question is, do you ever? It could be anything — writing lyrics, actual composition, whatever. And post some if you want/can.

I play guitar Johnny Ramone style, which basically means that I only play power chords and I downstrum them all so that I can play fast and keep rhythm. I write a lot of songs, which in the past have been almost exclusively about girl woes, but more recently I tend to write about all kinds of things. I take whatever I feel strongly about in life and put it to lyrics, sometimes pretty plainly and sometimes twisting it into more abstract stuff. I also sing, and I’m pretty decent at it. I’m playing around with recording stuff and practicing keeping perfect rhythm. And I’ll be getting a good mic soon!

I play guitar, and basically in the style of Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead. I use alot of effects for alot of my own material, also now that I’m back in college doing a music course, I now get the use of professional equipment.

I play guitar also. And I’m in a band. It’s called Mr. Roach and The Candy-Flavored Kittens. Temporary name though. =)

I intend to make a crappy techno song using the samples Cassie made for my video game.

I play the piano – usually arranged classical and neo-classical stuff, but occaisionally I get together with my friend who plays the guitar and we jam a bit.

We’ve tried to write some songs, but we keep changing the melody =/

i write lyrics but because i dont know anything about music (notes etc) i dont write anything else. of course i pick out a tune and everything, but i dont know what it is since i am uneducated.

i would love to be in a band (only me being female) sometime, singing i guess since i cant play ;_;

and when did we get this forum?

I haven’t written any entire songs in years. I can only write piano music though. =/

When I was singing for my friend’s band (AC Slater), I wrote some lyrics for them, and I also wrote some lyrics for another friend’s band, Concrete Groove. Never sang for them though. =/

I play Bari Sax and Tenor Sax in our school’s jazz band, and bassoon otherwise.

I’m a triple threat!

I was in middle school band when I was in middle school. I was the baddest trombone player this side of the St. Croix river. (By baddest I mean I was really horrible I was in band three years and I never really learned to play anything harder than the most basic of matierals.)

You really don’t have to. If you come up with a melody that’s all you really need. If you were in a band and writing words with a melody, you’d just sing them for your band members and they would presumably be able to come up with the music to go behind it.

I play guitar, can also play trumpet and little bit of piano. Trumpet’s the only one I had lessons for, a while ago, where I learnt to read music and stuff. But I think I’m starting to get rusty now.

I fiddle around with my guitar whenever I feel like it and have time. I’m self taught (with a bit of help from a friend) and that’s where I’ve been learning more about how music…works, sort of. Like, how chords are formed and what scales are and such. I just play punk rock stuff, or Weakerthans or Green Day songs or just fiddle around with whatever. I don’t really have a ‘style’ yet.

I also write little scraps of lyrics. I basically range from beginner to amateur in everything, but I intend to get a lot more into all of this music stuff when school is over. I wanna try to actually write a good song or two and mix some music together on my computer, like TK did. That’d be fun.

Weee, I crapped on.

i play clarinet, sing and am just starting to learn how to play guitar. I have had to do some clarinet compostions in the past for GCSE, and are doing some now for A level, and when I’m upset or angry I write songlyrics. If I ever bother to try and sing them, they sound like an Evanescence/HIM hybrid, which I think is quite kool.

However, i’ve never really wrote much of my own music beyond fooling around.

i’ve made some music and i play the drums in a crappy garage band. as a matter of fact we aren’t even a band all we do is play music just for the hell of it
