“World War 1” was a documentary series produced by CBS News Division and broadcast in the 1964-65 season on American Television. The monumental task of providing music for the 26 one hour episodes was given to composer Morton Gould and in 1965 Gould conducted a recording of themes and excerpts from his score for RCA. This download of “World War 1” was sourced from a DSD archived original RCA Red Seal LP which was acceptable but in several places suffered from the infamous 1960s vinyl bubbles, which I have tried to minimize as much as possible in the remastering process. Also included in this download are Morton Gould’s “Latin American Symphonette", 2 excerpts from his ballet “Interplay”, "American Salute" & a bonus track of the Peter Bodge arranged “Salute to Our Fighting Forces”, played by the Boston Pops Orchestra conducted by Arthur Fiedler, remastered from superior reel to reel tape sources, preserving in digital the glorious RCA Dynagroove “Living Stereo” sound.

I’ve just finished listening to this and once again, have to applaud you, on yet another very entertaining selection. I especially like Gould’s work, so this is real treat. Given whatever source deficiencies you had to overcome, the final result is a sonically and musically delight to the ears. Many thanks Steve.

I am not too familiar with Gould’s work, and I very much appreciate how your share corrects this deficiency 🙂 This is a wonderful album, and I look forward to listening to it again… and discovering more of Gould’s work!

As I recall, the actor Robert Ryan narrated this series. It is hard to believe that the "War to End all Wars" started exactly 100 years ago…
