Didn’t even know this existed because M:I2 is the only one I haven’t seen. A Zimmer fanboy like me hasn’t seen or heard M:I2. Who’da thought?

It’s one of the more interesting scores, if one that’s akin to junk food, with it’s usage of guitars and electronics of the time. It definitely reeks of the year it was released, but that doesn’t stop it from containing some amazing material ("Injection" is a must listen). "Take A Look Around" is trash as a whole, but the instrumental is neat (hence this post).

The movie is a big guilty pleasure of mine. So much so that it might be my favorite of the 5 films. I’m aware of how it’s the least well received, but I love just how over the top cartoonishly serious it is and the action sequences and set pieces. It makes me look past:

– A plot that doesn’t properly go together in it’s current form (with an hour and half missing).
– Very flat characters (Nyah is a token girl, Ethan is no longer a character and just Tom Cruise, Villain is very cartoony, everyone else is just there because the plot needs them).
– A lot of weird John Woo quirks (slow motion, doves, everyone looking like they’re from The Matrix, etc.), even though I think it adds to the charm.
– How 2000s it feels (Limp Bizkit really shows that), though that makes it strangely appealing to me.
– How it does not fit in with the other M:I movies, hence sticking out like a sore thumb.

It would be great if the full version would be released, since a heavier and more sense making cut of the film would allow for more people to at least acknowledge it. I recommend watching it with an open mind, and you’ll find yourself with a cheesy, but enjoyable action flick from 2000.
