Le Vampire (Suite) ~ George Fenton (lossless/flac)

The famous vampire novel by Anne Rice came to the screen in 1994 with an all-star cast and dramatic music by Eliot Goldenthal. The original composer was George Fenton, though, whose score was rejected shortly before the film’s release for being too slow and dark (per an interview with the film’s producer in the L.A. Times). Luckily, Fenton was set to to score another atmospheric film, "Mary Reilly", and reportedly incorporated much of "Le Vampire" into it. He also created this 15-minute suite, which was first performed in 2002 with London’s Royal Philharmonic featuring singer Alenka Ponjavic.

Fenton said this about the piece: "The music of Le Vampire was inspired by and includes the poem Le Vampire by Baudelaire. It was originally intended for inclusion in the film Interview With The Vampire, but was ultimately never used. Reworking the thematic material into a single piece, the music nevertheless tells the story of the Vampire Lestat. It begins with his birth as a vampire and his predilection for seduction. However, he encounters Claudia in whom he meets his match. A bitter rivalry ensues which escalates and Lestat wreaks havoc. Claudia escapes and flees to Paris. As Lestat broods on his loss, the singer recites the poem."

For the record: This particular recording (promo? bootleg?) has the music divided unnecessarily into 2 separate tracks that run together. When ripping the disc I combined the 2 tracks into 1 to avoid any gap that might occur with certain players. There is also improved cover art.

…which I got from Soulseek in 2004… it is obviously of the same performance but the sound quality is better… the digital clipping on this edition is beyond belief… 🙁

Also, the track splitting is not "unnecessary" – Fenton cast the piece in two movements, the delineation of which clearly occurs at the 11:14 mark. 🙂
