From Aram Khachaturian, complete ballet "GAYANE"
MFSL (Melodiya) URSS radio and TV symphony orchestra
1980 (remastered 1988) 2CD flac.
Very good (and rare) version. Everybody knows the famous "sabre dance", but there
are in Gayane so great melodies and arrangments (the fabulous prologue, for an exemple, or the begining of the 2nd act, or, in the cd1 at 17.30 mn,one of the most beautiful Waltz theme of all times). there are also many armenian folklore influences.
anyway, it’s so melodic and inspired, that it make me think this one is suprior to spartacus. (only my advice).
