Johann Sebastian Bach: Cantatas (Virgin/EMI, 1999)

Hello there! Here’s a fine little work I picked up yesterday at a local thrift store (don’t worry, this one should work fine: I learned from my previous mistakes). Today’s Bach-fest is brought to you courtesy of the Ensemble Sonnerie, Nancy Argenta, Lisa Beznosiuk, Paul Goodwin, Sarah Cunningham, Monica Huggett, Sirkka-Liisa Kaakinen, Crispian Steele-Perkins, and various other artists I might’ve forgotten. This set features the following works:

1. "Ich habe genug" (BWV 82a)

2. "Mein Herze schwimmt im Blut" (BWV 199)

3. "Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen" (BWV 51)

4. "Ich bin vergn�gt mit meinem Gl�cke" (BWV 84)

5. "Non sa che sia dolore"/Italian Cantata (BWV 209)

6. "Weichet nur, betr�bte Schatten"/Wedding Cantata (BWV 202)

It’s far from complete, but I’d say it’s a pretty good compilation. As for the period instruments, I think you’ll have to look elsewhere. BWV 199 uses a viola da gamba obbligato, but that’s as far as they were willing to go for historical accuracy.
