How to make a FLAC recording

Hello. Since I’m really new to all this, I was just curious about the FLAC files that I see floating around this site, and I was wondering if someone could tell me how I could do this from my CDs. I have some computer files that are WAV format, but don’t know how to convert those to FLAC either, so if someone can help, I can put the soundtracks up here for everyone to have.

OK, so I went over there, and it said that I can rip any CD with Winamp, which I have, but I cannot see how to do that. There is no tab for ripping, no tab for converting WAV or MP3 to FLAC. Can you help me?

Rip to WAV with Exact Audio Copy, convert with FLAC Frontend. Really simple and straightforward!

Nice reading, I was looking for something like this for ages.

I tried EAC in the past, but for some reason I got a bunch of read errors no matter what the CD was, or which drive I was using. I couldn’t detect any errors in the audio, but still, it seemed odd. I suppose my method is a more roundabout way of doing it, whereas EAC can do it in one go. But here it is anyway. If I need to grab something off a CD, I use Nero to save it as a WAV file or files if there are a bunch of them. Wav is actually fine for me. However, if I wanted to convert it/them to FLAC, I would use the command FLAC.EXE from DOS.

Yeah, thank you for this info I’ve been wanting to try making some FLACs for a while myself

I use xRecode II. Drag-and-drop files, choose an audio codec (if flac, then you can specify the lossless compression amount) and go!
