Deal with people who hate Anime/Manga?

It hurts me so to see there are people who point their fingers and say stuff like "OMG you like Japanese cartoons!!" To have a high interest in Far Eastern novels/animation is a crime?

The people I know who aren’t familiar with ‘Anime’ call it ‘Japanese crap’ of course I start a debate over it and go through what’s so…’crap’ about it. I think the problem here really is that they are freaked out by the doe-eyed girls XD

Not me, I love it so.

So how about you?

I’ve never really had to deal with people who hate anime and manga, so I wouldn’t know..
Most people I show my stuff to are either unfamiliar with the style (and don’t react negatively when I explain), know it as ‘japanese cartoons like beyblade and pokemon, right?’ or like it too. ^_^

If someone would say they hate it, I wouldn’t try to change their opinions.. it’s their opinion, they’re allowed to have it. If they don’t agree with my interests that’s too bad for them. :B

Unfortunately over the years I’ve met a large number of people that dislike anim� and manga and decide to insult it because of shows like Pok�mon, Dragonball Z and Beyblade. Alot of people don’t seem to understand one of my newer obsessions with Yaoi, infact I haven’t met one person that hasn’t looked at my strangely because of it bar my girlfriend.

The best thing is to ignore them, the occasional "OMG YOU STILL LIEK CARTUUNS!?" is annoying, but not worth the bother in the end.

Same here, these infidels don�t bother me, what annoys me way more are those anime/manga fans acting like poor victims of society. An article about manga appears in a magazine: They whine how badly the media treat their hobby, listing all tiny cliches and slight mistakes the author made; starting several (!!) discussions in message boards etc complaining that their classmates mock them, and so forth.
Being an active user in three more or less vivid manga/anime forums, I am more disturbed by those than by the occasional idiot who finds it�s funny to yell around how stupid we all must be and how he is the only one who�s seen the light of truth… They are even kind of entertaining.

But frankly, my life is wonderful and free of ignorant people. I read my mangas in public places like the school or in buses, and seldom ever get bothered by other people who think I must be a dumbhead for reading them. And honestly, I don�t feel particulairy crushed when a 10-year-old small one showing off his cell-phone ringing tunes yells "Ewwwww! Sailor Moon!!", poiting at my 3×3 Eyes. I am a little bit above that. 🙂

I don’t care if they do or do not, coz no doubt they have hobbies and likes that I dislike and do not care for, so I figure why complain and argue about it.

I know a few people that dislike it, but most either like it or don’t really care. What I hate are the whiny, pale, dorks that give us a bad rap by complaining about how misunderstood their beloved hobby is (no offense). But I am bothered sometimes when people say stuff like I’m still a kid or a nerd (though I really am, the whole RPG’s, computer, anime thing I guess). Mainly because I am too passive to argue with them about and because I am too shy and quiet to be able to accurately say why I like. 🙁
